The room should be clean and tidy whenever you’re going in there to meditate and it should also be spacious and not cluttered. Next, when you’re meditating you should definitely be comfortable. You don’t need to sit on a hard floor in an awkward position to meditate, get yourself a comfortable cushion, chair or couch to practise on. Not only does this make you more relaxed it’s also better for your joints and bones.
If it’s possible in your home, you should choose to meditate in the room with the biggest windows as natural light is the ideal lighting to meditate in. If you don’t have a room filled with natural light or you prefer to meditate in the evenings then you should decide what will make the room most relaxed for you, whether that’s candles or a dimmer switch.
Another great tip to make the perfect mediation space at home is to personalize your space. Having a few items that mean a lot to you, whether it’s a photo of your child or your dog or anything else meaningful, can help you get in the mood for meditation.
Mediation affects all of your senses so find an incense flavour or a candle that has a nice smell to you and use it in the room where you meditate. This makes the experience stronger as you’re noticeably using more of your senses.
