|
|
Our kitty (Miffy) fell of a beam down seven floors onto a metal grate.
We heard her crying at 5 AM, and ran frantically up and down the stairs, ringing doorbells, until a neighbor met us in the stairwell saying that our kitty was in front of her window.
I called the animal ambulance, and we rode with Miff to the emergency animal clinic. Her breathing was a little labored and her heart was racing, so they put her in an oxygen box while they waited for the emergency vet to arrive. She stayed for observation and we called the clinic at 10 AM. They told us that Miff had a broken pelvis, possibly one or two broken hind legs, possibly a damaged bladder, and severe injuries to her achilles heels as well as deep puncture wounds around her anus.
We took her to our own clinic at 1 PM, where she was anesthetized, her cuts were stitched up, and they took X-rays of her behind. Her pelvis is indeed broken and at a strange angle, her legs are okay. Her achilles heels are badly scraped, and she probably tore a lot of muscles and tendons in her hind legs. She probably fell ass-down on that metal grate, and that's how she got injured.
Right now she's at home in her crate (bench?), where she will have to stay for at least 3 weeks (possibly six). She sleeps a lot, she is very tired. She is in a lot of pain, but she appears to feel safe and pretty relaxed. She eats and drinks well when we feed her through a syringe (she can't really move around enough to use bowls), and purrs when petted gently. But we are waiting for her to eliminate urine and feces.
The vet told us that due to the severity of the impact, she may have damaged the nerves that regulate elimination. Also, because of the injuries around her anus and her broken pelvis, she may be too sore to want to eliminate. But she's also a very private pee-er - she's never used a box, and preferred to go outside where there's nobody watching. We're hoping she's just holding it in until she can't anymore...
If you can spare some vibes, can you send some to our Miff? We need her to pee and poop, and to heal! Miffy is our most resplendent, our brave little tiger, and without her antics life would be a lot less interesting... _________________ The plural of anecdote is not data.

Oh no! That sounds like quite a fall! I'm glad to hear she seems to be doing ok, and am sending lots and lots of pooping and peeing vibes to her! When I go home tonight I'm going to tell my Béla and Lola her story, to remind them why they shouldn't jump up on the railing planters on our third floor balcony, and I'm sure they'll be thinking good thoughts for her too.
(also, I totally get the whole no doing her business in public. my parents' cat is the same way, but when he really really needs to go and its absolutely terribly wintery outside, he uses the box, with much resentment.) _________________ i live at the foot of a mountain: some of my adventures |

Oh poor poor kitty! That sounds really awful, I hope she recovers from all those injuries and that she starts eliminating soon.
Give her an extra ear scratch from me. _________________ There were doves everywhere, and they were crying their asses off. |

She has not pooped or peed yet. If she doesn't tonight we're taking her back to the vet tomorrow. They may try to make her eliminate manually.
We did realize that since she doesn't like to go on a box, we should give her some outside dirt. She reacted by trying to escape the crate. She totally thought she could run up to the roof tondo her business, then collapsed in pain as she realized her legs don't work. But the dirt was a trigger, so...yeah...little pockets of hope I guess.
My heart breaks everytime she turns over and grunts like a dog because of the pain.
She really needs your vibes... She's not as close to getting better as we thought. _________________ The plural of anecdote is not data.

| what an awful fall (and a lovely name - littleC's favorite TV show for years was Miffy!). Strong vibes for Miffy and big hugs for her mamas. |
