do you get delivery?

There are a lot of things you can get delivered out of convenience that you could also go out and buy- meals, groceries, dry cleaning, cloth diapers, etc.

Every Friday I get a salad delivered for lunch at work as a treat. I rarely ever have food delivered when I am home, like only a few times year. My building has dry cleaning delivery service but I do not use it. Other than my weekly salad ($10) pretty much do not have things delivered (aside from online shopping.)

Do you have things delivered that you can get in your car and go pick up?
How much do you spend on delivery items? Do you save money or spend extra?
How much easier does it make your life?

There is not much delivery here in Kansas. I used to get pizzas delivered but not so much anymore. There is Jimmy John's, but I don't like Jimmy John's. Most restaurants will deliver catering, but that's on the occasion that there is a big bunch of people to feed. The only thing I've had delivered to my house in the last 5 years, other than pizza, is furniture I've bought, and I don't think that meets what you're talking about.

However, when I lived in NYC, I had food delivered ALL THE TIME. Mostly Chinese. And I had my groceries delivered, which made me feel like a princess but damn it was convienient.

I have seen a delivery service advertised here in my town that says they will deliver anything - food, dry cleaning, anything. I haven't been tempted to use it. Having my own car, it's pretty damn easy to go out and pick up anything I need.

I live in a borough of NYC, so there's delivery for everything.
I get:

-Takeout delivered at least 3x a week (almost all restaurants deliver here.)

-Full grocery orders delivered once a week/once every two weeks.

-My laundry picked up & delivered when it is done every two weeks.

-I've ordered alcohol and had it delivered.

I really love this aspect of where I live. It makes life so much easier. I'm not a fan of cooking so we've got to eat plus all the restaurants are so good! The laundry comes to about $15 more than if I did it myself, but I don't have the time or desire to sit in the laundromat if I don't have to. Groceries cost the same, plus a delivery fee (around $5) but I don't have to shlep them (no car.)

So, so rarely. I sometimes get online purchases delivered, and sometimes food. But the best food places in this town don't do delivery. We did once call the Biertaxi (Beer Cab) when we ran out of booze at a party. That was pretty fun.

Very very rarely.

There have been times when we've ordered pizza late at night when we were too intoxicated to pick it up. The only places that deliver are pizza and Chinese take-out. The latter, though I LUV it and could eat it every day for the rest of my life, I reserve as a rare treat. There are so many food options within a couple miles of my house that I feel guilty getting delivery. I'm also a generous tipper (>$5) so that makes already over priced pizza super over priced.

i get a lot of stuff delivered from amazon.com! we get kitty litter, coconut water, organic legumes, office supplies ... all kinds of stuff. the UPS guy is here almost every day.

as far as food, we get chinese every once in a while, or we may order a pizza from time to time. those are the only 2 options in our hood.

I was so spoiled in my undergraduate college town -- EVERYTHING delivered! (Well, not alcohol or cigarettes, though when I went to visit a graduate school in Ohio, they said you could get both delivered, haha :)

In my town, there is a delivery service that will pick up food for you and bring it to you, but I've never used it. To be honest, their webpage is kind of crappy, so I'm not confident in them! There's one local pizza place and 1 local chinese food place in town that deliver. It takes us less than 10 minutes to walk downtown and pick up whatever we want, though, so that's what we do!

We get groceries delivered most weeks. This saves money, for sure, because we used to shop daily/ most days for food and it's so easy to buy too much/ impulse buy that way.

Other things, well, the odd pizza. Many food places here don't deliver, which I find ridiculous. My old city, we used to get all kinds of food delivered, but here - a much bigger city - it seems to be take-away only. Boo on that.

The only things I can afford (barely) to get delivered are pizza or really terrible chinese food. A few other fancier restaurants deliver but are super $$$. I consider the lack of options for takeout/delivery to be a serious downside of living in my small city. As a non-driver I'd happily pay for delivery of all sorts of things.

We get groceries delivered. Not fresh stuff, but things like tinned vegetables, dried goods and cleaning products. It's probably about once a month. It's worth not having to deal with visiting a supermarket the size of a football field on a weekend or late after work. D absolutely hates doing it and in turn that makes me grumpy and we end up sniping at each other.
As townhall says, it's also cheaper. For us it cuts down on impulse purchases (such as four packets of Pocky Sticks!)
We also get the occasional take away delivered, but as we live about 5 minutes walk from cheap good restaurants we tend not to bother except for pizza. Which we did tonight whilst watching Eurovision

At the moment D has his shoulder in a sling after surgery and can't drive so we are car-less for 6 weeks.

The rest of the things I either don't use or prefer to do myself.

I would love to, but for what I would want either delivery doesn't exist or I'm outside of the delivery area. No car, so I have to rely on borrowed/shared transportation or the city bus + walking (because the bus stop is a 20-minute walk away from the house). I'd consider a bike, but the area I'm in is effing dangerous for bicyclists, plus there are long inclines that even very fit cyclists have trouble with. That makes buying groceries and picking up packages from the post office a routine hassle.

If I lived in Brooklyn or Queens, I would probably have everything delivered.

i actually have a complex about delivery, figuring that if it's close enough for someone to bring to me, it's close enough for me to go get it my own damn self. (note i live in nyc, where delivery is generally via bicycle/motorbike, rather than car, so it's more than one might like to walk, but not driving distances... most restaurants have a 10ish block radius within which they'll deliver.)

for this reason, the only time i really ever get delievery is when i'm at the office. we generally work straight through lunch at our desks, so i don't often find the time to leave for 30 minutes just to pick up my food, let alone eat it. also there's a big culture of ordering food in my office, so we often decide together what we want, or someone will make an announcement if they're set on something and other people will jump on that order.

my neighborhood has only started developing in the last few years, but luckily my three favorite restos are literally around the corner, so it's no big to go pick it up. on the rare occasion that i do get things delivered to my house, i give a huge tip because i feel so weird and guilty about having someone bring my food to me. (i'm generally a super generous tipper anyway, since i've worked multiple jobs in the service industry and it SUCKS.)

i don't really count online shipping as "delivery" (though i do get these things sent to my office, since i don't have a door man/any way to accept packages during the day) and freshdirect doesn't deliver to my neighborhood (or maybe they do but i'm never home during delivery hours, i can't remember.)

i drop off/pick up my laundry, but that's also because it's DIRECTLY across the street from my apartment :)

We get pizza maybe once every two or three months but nothing other than that (besides online purchases of course). Maybe once a month in the winter if the weather is crappy (we tip accordingly).

We live on the edge of town so although a lot of places here delivery (college town), many of them don't deliver out here. Which is fine, there's not much I want/need anyway. Once in a while I'd like to have some option for food beyond pizza, but other than that it's fine.
