Would y'all be interested in starting an actual book club on here? I know we've discussed it in some of the book threads, but I'd really like to get it going. I was thinking one book a month (we can vote on genre and then book) and having some basic rules (you must read the book lol...) and then discussions and fun. What do you think?
A few ideas to get us started thinking about genre/books:
-A classic: Austen, Fitzgerald, etc...
-A "popular" read like "The Fault in Our Stars", "Bitterblue" (which comes out May 1st and I am soooo excited for!), "1Q84", etc...
-A graphic novel series? MarkDoesStuff is about to start Neil Gaiman's "Sandman" next week and I think it would be awesome to reread it along with him. (I'm doing "The Princess Bride" right now & it's lots of fun!)
-A YA novel new or old?
-A bio...
-Something else...
ETA: Now with a poll! Vote and/or comment below if you would like something different! :)
eta2: Choose a book! Looks like I can't change the poll now? So here are some choices for Adult "Popular" Fiction, since that seems to be the majority winner (taken from the Fiction & Book Club lists on Goodreads). Please feel free to suggest something else below if you don't like any of these!
1. 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami-3 votes
2. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern-1 vote
3. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
4. The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes-2 votes
5. The Paris Wife by Paula McLain-3 votes
6. The Help by Kathryn Stockett-2 votes
7. Your choice... _________________ ps- you're my favourite. We should be friends.--e

Yes! I've never been in a book group, so don't know much about the usual rules and stuff, but I'd definitely be interested. I love reading but tend to get that 'I don't know what I want' thing when in the library and pick stuff by authors I already know, so it' be a good chance to branch out. _________________ kittens are cute, but a full-grown cat can be cuter

Yay! I set up a poll so we can start getting an idea. Once you vote, give me some suggestions of books in your genre. I think it'd probably be best to start fresh in May, so that gives people plenty of time to find/buy the book if needed.
Here's my idea of rules/guidelines:
1.Read the book :) If you decide you don't want to read that month's book, no problem.
2.Join in the discussion, post links/pics/whatever about the book if you want.
3.Place spoilers in white; preface with something like "Spoilers thru Chapter 5" or whatever, just in case you are ahead of others.
4.Keep the discussion respectful, voice your opinions but don't bash others for theirs. Don't turn it into a "Twilight vs Harry Potter" argument lol...
Anything else you would like to add? _________________ ps- you're my favourite. We should be friends.--e |

I would be interested as well! All my friends who are readers are in school right now, so I have no one to book-geek out with! _________________ Wenn's dir nicht gefällt, mach neu. |

Okay, I put my vote in for Popular Fiction and I am going to suggest The Fault in Our Stars* just because I have it on my to-read shelf already lol...but I am honestly open to anything, so feel free to suggest!
*I think this is technically considered YA? But I'm not sure and don't know if it matters? _________________ ps- you're my favourite. We should be friends.--e |

It's definitely YA, but it was pretty good! I read it already, but that works for me, since I have too many book clubs to read for already. I'll have more time in the summer though so a glitter book club sounds great to me! |

I'd be interested, but I am super busy with school during the school year. I might be good for the summer, and then taper off in the fall... I voted for popular, since school takes up a large chunk of my brain, and I would like something a little lighter for my leisure reading. _________________ be happy for this moment. this moment is your life. |

Okay, looks like the majority is for a Popular Fiction book! I can't figure out how to change/delete the poll, so I put some book choices in my first post at the top. Take a look and give your vote or suggest a different book! :) _________________ ps- you're my favourite. We should be friends.--e |

I am done with school in two weeks... I'd love to!! I vote for the Julian Barnes book, I read another one of his a few years back and loved it. (Love, etc.? I think?)
I'm up for anything though! This is my first book club, so I'm just happy to tag along ;) _________________ (Human sass. Robotic precision.)
