I would be interested in either the Help or Paris Wife.

Another vote for Julian Barnes. I've read a couple of his books, but not a recent one.

I'd also be down for Night Circus or 1Q84.

I'm listening to "The Paris Wife" on audio at the moment and really enjoying it! So another vote for that!

Would also like to re-read "The Help" so that gets my vote as an alternate...

I'm open to whatever though, I've never got on with Murakami but maybe this will be the push I need to read him properly!

1Q84 gets my vote, but I'll read whatever the group picks. I'm easy. :)

I've read them all except 1Q84, which I tried to read, but got distracted from (I will pick it up again in the summer, I'm sure). I liked them all (especially Ready Player One!), but I think The Paris Wife would be interesting to discuss with y'all so I will vote for that one.

Looks like we're tied right now with 1Q84 (I keep wanting to put IQ lol) and The Paris Wife! :)

So if you had to pick one of those two, which would you prefer? I think I'm going to go for 1Q84 just because it's been on my to-buy list for awhile. Also I have an irrational hatred for Hemingway and I'm not sure how I would feel reading about him lol...but of course I'll go with the majority if that's the case.

1Q84 -2 votes

The Paris Wife -1 votes

I would read either happily, though I have a slight preference for 1Q84 as I heard a radio serial of The Paris Wife last year.

I'm going to say Paris Wife still, I really haven't enjoyed any of the previous Murakami work that I've read. I might give it a go if it's the overwhelming favorite though.

I literally just finished 1Q84 last night. It is really really good. So I won't be able to read along but I would love to discuss it if it's chosen.

I've read The Paris Wife, but it was recently so I would probably be able to discuss it without having to completely re-read it.

I've struggled with Murakami in the past, but I will go with whatever the group picks.

Uh...so my vote is for either. Super helpful, I know. ;)

Lol...okay, how about we do 1Q84 for May and hold The Paris Wife for another month? It seems like there isn't anyone saying "NO! I don't want to read that!" so hopefully that's okay. :) I'm excited!

I just got a call from the bookstore that my copy of 1Q84 has come in!

Yay!

It turns out 1Q84 is published in two volumes in this country. There is a giant queue of reservations for library copies of both volumes, so I guess I'm sitting this round out! Boo.

I went ahead and put IQ84 on hold at the library, but as with town hall, there's a long hold list. They do have a lot of copies in circulation, so I might wind up getting it soonish anyway (the system seems sort of unpredictable at times...)
