I have to share this with glitter!
There's there book called Wheat Belly that has had a lot of press. It was written by a cardiologist and I find some of the things on his blog interesting and useful, especially the information about maintaining stable blood sugar.

BUT...I hate it that he has an image of a woman in a bikini at the top of his blog. And it bothers me that her boobs appear to get bigger as she loses weight.
So, I called him on it and he responded!
This guy rarely responds to comments on his blog.

1) I want to brag that I called him out on his use of the image! My comment is here by AnnieBee:
http://www.wheatbellyblog.com/about-the-author/

2) He asked *me* if I have other suggestions for his blog banner. I thought I would see if my brilliant glitter friends could help me respond.[/b]

I'm more bothered by the fact that the fat woman is sad and the thin woman is happy.

That is a terrible graphic. It's not only offensive because it's sexist and sizist but because it's ugly. (and I mean, mostly, the graphic quality)

What else would incorporate things he talks about? Pictures of fruits and veggies? How about pictures of people of all ages/sizes/etc as a way to touch on the variety of diseases his system can help?

Good on you, annie! It's great that you stood up and that he's receptive to change.

Has his publisher seen his site? If he's using it to promote his book, they may be willing to provide graphics (like the one on the cover, or any pictures from inside the book). His current graphic is undoing the design/branding work the publishing team did.

Otherwise, a picture of a wheat-free meal seems like a good choice and not too expensive to shoot. Maybe pictures of actual people who have healed by following his diet (in normal clothes, "after" shots only)? Looking at the kind of images that health care and health insurance companies use to advertise may give him some more ideas.

I also like the idea of showing some wheat-free foods. Or maybe a variety of people leading healthy lifestyles (like riding bikes). Microstock agencies such as istockphoto or shutterstock has tons of great inexpensive images he could use as a banner header or use for inspiration.

That's a terrible graphic. It reminds me of those web ads that have a dancing lady animated gif to get you to look at it, and it has nothing to do with dancing nor ladies, but mortgage refinancing or credit scores.

excellent point. I totally agree!

caropop, I know. I hope he didn't pay much for such an ugly graphic.

snoopy, I really like the idea of images of people doing fun/active things like riding bikes!

Not only that but because we read things from left to right in English, it looks like the happy thin lady is the starting point and the sad fat lady is the ending point.

I keep wanting to see gross drawings of horrible wheat monsters invading someone's intestines, but that's probably not what he's going for.

anniebeegoode, I think it's really awesome that you spoke up about this! I'm really glad he's willing to talk about changing to something else.

I'll totally let him use a picture of me riding my kick ass mountain bike - I'm 100% wheat free and look pretty darn amazing :)

/narcissism

Maybe he could get people who are on wheat free diets to submit HQ pictures of themselves doing something they love and have the text of it overlayed somehow?

He could get some food photos going...and I bet you his publisher has some pictures he could use that are good, or pick up a good stock photo or something...

Aliceinwonderland, this would be really fun if it resulted in a photo of you on his blog!

I'll suggest it to him!

Just started really looking into going wheat free (I've always noticed how upset my stomach gets after eating bread and pasta) and noticed the ugly graphic is still on that page :-p
