Just wondering what glitter gals/guys are working on for holiday gifts. Yup, I'm trolling for ideas.
In no particular order:
- bought a few awesome beads that I will work into a bracelet for my niece, bonus for this gift is that I am planning on sitting with my mom for a while to make this so I get to visit with her doing crafty stuff AND get a gift (or two) out of it
- I just uncovered a pattern for an adorable sewn bag - not sure who I would give it to because my family isn't all that into handmade gifts
- seriously thinking of getting the kid and I to do portraits of each other for hubby
- pecans! - bumper crop this year so I need to get those cracked and find some recipes for flavored pecans to give away
- Knitty had a great idea a couple of years ago for a scarf - I had barely started to make it when it got put away (would make a great gift for another niece and sister in-law)
- and as per what we do every year - I've been taking lots of photos to be used to make calendars for the parents/in-laws so they have lots of pictures of the kid. I've thought about using this same idea to make recipe books for family members but not sure I have enough great recipes to do that.
(hope I posted this in the right place). There's my list, haven't really started on any of them but good to at least have ideas, right?! |

Share the sewing pattern!
I am cross-stitching some ornaments for my nephews. I give them an ornament every year--when they are adults then they have a nice little collection that's all theirs. I have said for years that I should make them ornaments in some years and just never find the right idea with the right time. I got some free cross-stitch kits off the free table at quilt guild one day and they fit into the themes of the ornaments for each boy. And they're small and quick, which is perfect for my available time right now. _________________ country cookin' makes you good lookin'

I'm making some ornaments for the swap. I just bought a few tea towels to embroider for my grandmother and aunts. I might crochet a hat for my partner. _________________ "I tried watching downton abby. mistake. switched to ru paul's drag race." - Lacey Marie |

- knitting socks for my FIL & BIL
- knitting a shawl for my mom (3/4 done)
- hopefully knitting a bunch of toddler mittens for K's friends, but that depends how much time I have
- baking cookies for K's teachers (trying for 4 different kinds)
- designing and photographing our christmas cards (photos taken already)
I have lots of other knitting ideas but I think I've left it too late to get much else done. _________________ Are you familiar with the old robot phrase "DOES NOT COMPUTE"? |

-I'm making persimmon pulp right now that will go into some sort of holiday treat for my family.
-My friend is getting socks, need to pick a pattern and get cranking.
-Another friend's baby is due in January, and I'm halfway through a baby kimono.
I need a couple mailable things for friends - maybe divinity cookies? Those actually satisfy all the allergy issues for my department at school, too... |

Jerky & dried veggies & fruit assortments (love my dehydrator!) and homebrew.
I wish I had more time to craft, however I'm happy with the consumable gift ideas this year! _________________ Etsy!

I love consumable gifts. Last year we gave littleC's teacher a jar of home made granola. When my family used to get together to make tamales the bosses always got a dozen or two. We probably have close to 5 gallons of pecans that need to be shelled, some will go in the freezer and the rest will be used for gifts.
Those are all my bright ideas. Now I just need to make them happen! |

I'm planning to make throw pillows for my girls. The pillows will be shaped like our dog Milo. Both girls adore that dog. I hope Milo the dog does not chew up Milo the pillow.
I'll probably be making a bunch of ornaments too. With the kids. Ariana already decided she will be making felt bacon. She saw that online somewhere.
I'm going to knit teacup/coffee mug cozies for all the kids. They all love hot beverages in the Winter.
Not sure what else. I have to think about it.
Like tinyrock, I want to do something with persimmons. I have a tree full of fruit so I want to use it in a new way. I would give the treats to my in-laws because they love persimmons! |

I have been working on my ornaments for the swap. I have also been making and freezing cookie dough. The plan is to make up a batch of dough and freeze it every week so when it comes time to bake for Christmas it doesnt become a giant time/money suck.
I'd like to do more, I'll have to put on my thinking cap. |

| kittyroc, the persimmon options I've come up with are persimmon pudding, persimmon bread, and fruit leather. The wild persimmons here are different from Japanese persimmons, though, they're kinda like dates. |

Ooh, persimmon bread sounds tasty. I was thinking of persimmon cookies too. My tree grows the Chinese persimmons. They look like little pumpkins and they are crunchy. |

having the dehydrator is the BEST! this is probably what we'll be doing for most gifts this year (sadly minus the homebrew!!!!), i dont have time to craft ANYTHING.
last year we did candied nuts, jerky, and dried fruit & veg. we'll probably do the same and jar some salsas and make tamales since we make so much every day at the taco stand anyway. (i'm nervous about canning/jarring things "for real" and not just half assing it for our own personal use at home...).
but it still leaves a whole heap of people who don't really appreciate handmade/consumables. bah! _________________ THE MUNDANE IS TO BE CHERISHED |

I'm making a set of quilted placemats and napkins for my parents. I always make a zipper pouch of some sort for my sister, it's a tradition. Thankfully my family appreciates what I make for them. My sister often gifts us with art prints of hers, which I love.
I'm wondering if my inlaws would appreciate something handmade. They might . . . my mominlaw has hinted a bit, but it's tough figuring out her taste since I don't see her very often, living so far away. She's a knitter, maybe a knitting bag?
In the semi handmade category, I bought a bunch of teatowel prints from spoonflower during their fat quarter sale for all the households I'm gifting this year (ie immediate family, including inlaws and sisinlaw), that I will finish up when they arrive. Those will make good stocking stuffers.
I always make tons and tons of cookies and sweets, and those always go over well :) _________________ i live at the foot of a mountain: some of my adventures |
