Watching Venus cross in front of the sun! So amazing! Not in person (boo clouds) but via live Internet feed. Still magical though. _________________ No fork left behind! |

I'm still working on my resume (blech), but I decided to get out of the house super early and bring my laptop to a cafe. So, I'm currently enjoying a fancy coffee and feeling less isolated because there are lots of people around. Here's to a productive morning! _________________ "It came to betoken the nation's biking and adulation of automobiles!" |

I've lost 10 pounds in the last two months!
And, because of all the lunges that I do in physical therapy (for my foot), my butt is getting perkier! _________________ country cookin' makes you good lookin'

I am logging off the computer in a few minutes to go on vacation! And I'm hoping I can hold off and not use any internet for at least a couple of days. (I am enforcing no iPhone friday for hubster and me at least!)
But I am going back to my hometown and I can't wait to veg out and watch my kid play outside! _________________ Are you familiar with the old robot phrase "DOES NOT COMPUTE"? |

| My co-worker found a St*ar Trek Next Gen costume for $2. He couldn't pass it up but it wouldn't fit anyone in the family. It fits me perfectly, and my kid tried it on and loved it even if it is too big for him. Started our workday out just perfectly! |

Isn't it cool! They do this big haunted hay ride/maze of terror thing every Halloween. The admission was something crazy, like $40. That was a bit out of our budget, but I get to hear the scary music every weekend in October! _________________ Truth is, everybody is going to hurt you; you just gotta find the ones worth suffering for." -Bob Marley

I'm not sure if I have mentioned this here already (def. not in this thread...) but: my book proposal got accepted! I and my colleague from Aletta (formerly the International Institute and Archive for the Women's Movement) have been working on it for a year, and the process was horrific: each time we submitted a edited or reformulated or totally reconceptualized draft (as per the publisher's instructions), they'd respond with "Great work! Now change this!" Back and forth, grrr.
But it finally got accepted and will be published some time next year! I'm so excited! (But also kind of terrified of all of the work that I'll be doing on it while I teach 1050 hours next academic year...) _________________ The plural of anecdote is not data.

That is one of the best things ever! I am ever so thankful that apart from a few passwords that are set to a default and I just haven't bothered to change them, pretty much everything else at work uses the same password. It is wonderful!

My good thing: D and I bought a car! An older well used car, but a car nonetheless! If you had told me a few years ago that owning a car would be a good thing of mine, I would have laughed, but well, times have changed and its now a good thing. I don't expect my life to change drastically, but it will get a lot easier in some respects (visiting my parents, going on mini road trips, without the planning that is required of using car sharing). D and I have called it our "practice" car, for us to get used to car ownership before buying a nicer new or not so old car in the future (and if we hate it, we don't have to buy another one in the future either). My dad went on and on about how proud he was of me, to go out and buy a car and then drive it home (he tried teaching me in my late teens and I gave up). Even though I've had my license for a few months I've rarely driven alone, just because of circumstance, so for me to drive a bunch of times all by myself was awesome. It isn't so much that I feel free now because I never felt like not being a driver/owning a car held me back all that much just forced me to be creative, but more that there was this daunting "thing" that I didn't think I could get over, and I did! _________________ i live at the foot of a mountain: some of my adventures |

One of my professors/the chair of the English dept at my college is taking a bunch of us out for food & (let's be real, mostly) drinks on Wednesday. And she's picking up the tab!
And my friend Brandon got transferred to my department at work! I've missed working with him. _________________ Back in the '70s when disco & exorcisms were all the rage, he was the man. |

| LittleC had his first day at a new summer day camp yesterday and I was more anxious than he was. He LOVED it, especially the chess class. He's growing up and becoming so much more independent than I was at his age, I love seeing this. |
