Yay! Sorry, didn't mean to freak out there. It's nuts how big the fakes market is. I mean, fake purses and stuff don't really bother me. But the makeup creeps me out!
I know what you mean about the cheap brushes. I don't know if Eyes Lip Face ships to where you are, but their powder brush from the Studio line is really nice and it's only $3. Their regular brush line is terrible, but the studio line is good!
I've been slowly trying to buy "nice" brushes after having walmart christmas sets. It's amazing how much better it is to use the nice ones! They use up less of the makeup too.

Thanks for the tip! (Even though it wasn't my question.) E.L.F do have a Euro arm, and it's incredibly cheap. Does the 'regular = crap, studio = good' thing apply to the makeup, as well, or just the brushes?

In my experience yes. I had really really bad luck with all their "regular" makeup I bought. The concealer was straight up orangey, and everything was chalky. The studio line is more on par with drugstore brands, imho. So it's way more usable and normal.

Concealer me! I rarely break out, but when I do, I hate hate HATE that bright red spot on my face (or sometimes chest). But I guess I'm not sure what I should buy or how to use it - like, do I need to go to Sephora and get help and invest in something that I will rarely use? Do I just grab something at the drugstore? Help!

For concealer, I prefer a stick formula because it stays put a little better. Plus they don't really go bad like the liquid kind can.
Wet N Wild makes really nice concealer sticks, as bizarre as that is. They're like, $3. I've literally been using that brand since I was 15...so for the past 15 years. I buy other brands but it's my old faithful.

TWO new Sephora's opened in my city, both of which are considerably closer and easier to get to via public transit than the other two that have been open for awhile. One I can even walk to on my lunch hour! The other one is at a mall that has parking and is on island (the existing two are at off island malls with parking, but I find them too far to go just to go to Sephora). I like having lots of options for getting to my makeup browsing sessions.
So in anticipation of going to a Sephora sometime, I was browsing their website, and they now have lots more nail related items! Woohoo! I always found they lacked in this department, so now I have lots to browse in person. Also, I think my trip is going to involve looking at BB creams, because they seem like a product I will like (if I can find one that matches my skintone well).

I am a fan. I have one by Dr Brand that seems a bit too dark when I put it on, but then kind of...changes. And becomes invisible. It's pretty cool - I usually don't even need any concealer with it. I do usually still wear a regular moisturizer underneath, because I feel that the BB Cream is not quite enough. Still, one of my favorite products.

I rarely wear concealer unless I have a major case of the botches, I'm more of a "even things out a bit" kinda gal, so bbs have intrigued me. My morning routine normally involves shower-moisturize (amongst other things)-eat breakfast/get dressed-primer/mineral foundation, so I'll probably stick with moisturizing too, but cut out the primer/mineral foundation bit.
I know what you mean about the "changes" part. I've had quite a few products do that to me, so I've learned to try things out and wait and see. Too bad my morning meeting went too late, otherwise I'd totally be there this lunch hour!

Have we not talked about makeup since June? COME ON!!! Makeup and food are like the only luxury indulgences I can occasionally partake in since the economy fell on its ass (nice shoes, forget about it!), and even when I can't indulge in makeup (which is like three weeks out of the month) I can still afford to talk about it. So let's talk some more makeup! Please?
Here are my thingies:
- I just got two new pairs of glasses. My mom helped to sponsor new glasses for my birthday, and there was a buy on get one free deal, so I sprung for the buy-one to be kinda fancy, and got another fancy gratis. Both are pretty large frames, and they are awesome, but I feel like even with my regular eye makeup amped up I look kind of "naked" behind them. And not in the Urban Decay Naked "Oh hai I spended €50 on makeup that makes me look like I am not wearing makeup" kind of way, but like I have tiny eyes kind of way. And also like I kind of look like a 14-year-old, which is not a great look in my profession (or in general, at 32). A full-on smokey eye looks AWESOME behind the black frames, and not too makeuppy, because those frames pretty much eat 40% of my face. But I also got a pair of shiny-metal front, white arms frames (kind of Ray-ban shaped), and dark eye makeup behind the light-colored frame looks kind of stupid. So: any tips for making eyes pop behind light colored frames without looking like you are trying way too hard?
- Did anyone buy the Urban Decay Smoked palette? Because I WANTS IT so bad, but mostly for the Mushroom color. A single eye shadow from UD runs 24 here, and the palette (10 colors) runs €43. So buying a single would be ridiculous. But are the other colors worth it? I am particularly curious about the mattes, since the other palette on my covet-list is the Too Faced Matte Eye palette. Does anyone have that one?
- Also: they just started selling Philosophy here. Is it any good? I am mostly interested in their cream/foam face wash stuff. Does it actually remove gel eyeliner without needing a dedicated eye makeup remover?
As for my makeup brushes conundrum: this was solved when my dear friends bestowed a massive booty of MAC gift certificates on me, which I mostly blew on some really fabulous brushes. Winged liners are such a breeze with a nice brush! And I highly recommend getting a pencil brush, which I use for under eye and crease applications - so awesome! I'm pretty much set, I think.

Have you tried a purple or plum colour to do a smokey eye with? Instead of a dark brown or grey. I find that purple really helps to define the eye without making it look too harsh. Even something in the plum/brown is amazing.
You could also try something with a bit of a shimmer in (I'm thinking along the lines of MAC Trax, or UD Half Baked or Smog). That might make things a bit more glamourous without making it too dark.
Or you could go with a plain lid and do a super thick crazy winged liner :)

That's definitely where I would go for a shadow in a color that contrasts your eye color--that will enhance your eye color.

They stopped selling Philosophy here, which is sort of strange but I'm assuming it's because someone discovered their packaging is only in English. In the past I have used Hope in Jar (both with and without spf) which I liked very much. Right now I have a sample of their purity face wash and it seems to work really well at taking off eye makeup (nope, I don't get it either how Sephora won't ship me a full size product, but will ship me a sample). I don't really appreciate their bath products, although they smell delicious I find them pricey for what they are (but are great onsale!).

I am not so super-duper on the plum (it's personal), but I tried a matte taupe smokey eye with matte brown/gray mixed "smoke" and it looked pretty cool! I'm going to try the shimmery smokey eye too!
I'm all over the crazy winged liner, too!
Caro: that contrast thing works well, but with blue eyes it means I'm kind of stuck with coppers and oranges, and I don't know... it's a bit of a commitment, I feel. I did hear about the bare lower lid (do it all the time) but feel that with the low-hanging large frames I kind of need something down there all of a sudden. I tried blending out a mix of black & gold liner on the bottom, which (again) was a little night-clubby. But I do feel the small-eyes effect is most prominent when you make a hard line vs a shade on the lower lid.

^^ w&p: i'm not spectacled myself, but i'd imagine glasses need an arch-ier brow shape so your eyes dont fade behind the lenses. also have you tried using a white liner/lightly shimmery highlighter for the lower lashline? don't know if it would make you feel too shiny with the silver specs, but worth a shot! i do it to open up my asian eyes on days where i feel totally tired and need to fake it til i make it.
