Cotton is pretty inexpensive, and if you get one of those coupons that come in the paper and mail like, every week, you can get forty percent off.
You'll probably want several yards, and your coupon is good as long as it's a single cut of fabric (i.e. 4 yards in one piece).
The coupon is prob. better than the employee discount. My aunt works at the "other" craft store and her discount is quite a bit less than the coupon.
Do you have a Hobby Lobby near you? They sometimes have lower prices too. _________________ "Fun is where you find it" - jackierocket |

Do any of the fabric stores around you have an "ends" section? I've been pretty lucky with finding good stuff in the areas of the store I shop at, and there's usually quite a bit on most ends (easily a couple of meters).
Also, this is gonna sound strange, but sometimes you can find awesome cotton tablecloths and/or sheets onsale that work out to pretty cheap for a lot of fabric. I know the store that rhymes with Ears often does, as well as a few more local chains I won't bother mentionning since they won't be helpful to you. Not sure if you would be able to find pinstripe, but it's worth a browse, if you're in a store that sells that kinda stuff anyways. _________________ i live at the foot of a mountain: some of my adventures |

I have a stupid question...how do iI find a local small business?
If I want to spend my money locally, how do I know my options? Is there an app for this? _________________ She believed she could, so she did. |

Well, if you're looking for a bookstore, there's an app called Indiebound (this is just their regular website) that gives you independent bookstores in your area. Kind of neat, I just got it and it listed quite a few that I'd never heard of. _________________ ps- you're my favourite. We should be friends.--e |

Mohawk, what about using the yellow pages app? (or whatever people use in your area). I know its a very much lofi option, but sometimes the only way to find out if a business truly is local is to go and visit and talk with the people working there. _________________ i live at the foot of a mountain: some of my adventures |

Ooh, the bookstore link is cool! I was thinking of more of a directory service that would point me in the direction of local, independent stores that I might not know about. I want a directory that says, "hey did you know this store existed? its local! its small! Check it out before you go to Target/Old Navy/Pier1, yet again." _________________ She believed she could, so she did. |

Back on the fabric question:
I can't post direct links right now, but the biggest and cheapest of the fabric sites are
Fashion Fabrics Club.com and Fabric.com
Also, Denver Fabrics.
If you have time, you should sign up on their mailing lists to get notifications of sales and the occasional coupon.
The 40% off coupons at the big stores are always a good bet.
eBay and Etsy are good for fabric, too. With what you're looking for, you're probably bound to find it more easily on eBay, but it's certainly worth looking for.
Often, if I'm looking for something specific, I'll just google it. You get a lot of results that are worthless and/or scary sites, but it's generally pretty easy to pick out the reputable sites that are okay to order from. Knock on wood, but I've never had an issue. _________________ country cookin' makes you good lookin'

Here's one for parents. How long did you/do you use a baby moniter? My friend still has hers and her daughter is almost 2. The fancy schmancy video kind. It broke the other day and she had to rush out and get a new one, even though they really didn't want to spend any money on one. I kept my mouth shut, but I was thinking "Jeez, (she was 21 months at the time), don't think it's time to give it up?" Or I don't know, maybe I'm the wrong one? They live in a small house and she stays home most of the time, so they can hear her cry from anywhere. Is it just convenience to be able to see if they're asleep or not, or is it a good idea, safety wise? _________________ Don't forget to be awesome.

| I used the monitor until it wore out. Kid was probably 6 and it was the old fashioned kind. He actually missed it and asked for us to get a new one for many years after that. Now he asks if we can get walkie talkies for our bedrooms but I won't go there. It was a security blanket for me and the kid and if I had problems getting to sleep I would turn on the music in his room and listen to it from my room. Worked like a charm because we used really peaceful bedtime music. And if it matters, we have a small house as well. |

I didn't bother past a few months, but Mr. Knitty liked it because he could be down in the rec room and have the monitor to hear her.
My friend got a video one at her baby shower and her cousin was like "Yeah I stay up all night watching him on the video monitor!" and I laughed. I guess I just didn't roll that way.
I found the thing a hassle. Maggie never did any sort of quiet fussing if she wanted something it was like WAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!. You could hear it three counties away! _________________ "Fun is where you find it" - jackierocket |

We only used it a few months, after that she got loud enough that you couldn't miss her. We have an audio only one. It would suck to hear her cry through that thing... especially if it was what was waking me up. Super jarring. No likey. Now she just screams HEEEEEEEEEY HEY HEEEEYYYYYY when she wants us to come get her. _________________ Etsy!
