How can you tell if the fan in your laptop stopped working?

I still hear it, but its so faint, and the bottom is hot hot hot hot!

Is there a thread about bikes and/ or cycling somewhere? I feel like I was reading it recently, but now I can't find it!

ETA: Daysleeper, I found out my fan stopped working when it made a horrible noise, and my laptop said 'fan error' when I tried to turn it on.. but leading up to that time, the fan had been sort of pulsing on and off, and the laptop had been red hot underneath.

Is there a tactful way to signal to someone that the conversation is over and it's time for them to get out of my office? Right now I generally pull a "Well I've got lots of work to get to, it was nice chatting with you." kinda deal, but sometimes people just keep on going. I have a lot of students/more junior staff who work with me (and a few of them are women, in a man dominant domain), so I don't mind them stopping in to ask me questions or just general chitchat from time to time. It's important they feel comfortable coming to see me, because occasionally they have some tough situations (and more than once I've had to coax it out of them). But is there a nice way to signal "Hey, it's been nice, let me get back to work!"?

How far in advance can you make a jack o'lantern?

(NB, I do realise that 16 September is far too early to make one for a halloween party!)

I used to mention something specific that I was working on (when I worked in an office environment). "Oh, is it 2:00 already? I have to prep for my 2:30 conference call! Thanks for the chat!" I found that if I used a generic "lots to do" sentence people weren't as receptive as if I mentioned something specific that I had to do.

If you smear vaseline along the cuts and can keep it in the fridge or a cool room when not on display, it can keep for a couple weeks. (from personal experience. YMMV)

I also saw on pinterest that if you put the little baggie of those silica gel things (that come with random clothing that say do not eat) will help preserve your punkin for longer.

That silica gel is for removing moisture... I cant see how that would help as the drying out is the major primary problem. But if you ever need a ton of silica gel, ask at your pharmacy. The stock bottles of drugs have at least 2-3 in each bottle.

Teehee :) Our sheets are white, so I think hubs always uses hot water, which works like a charm! I would usually do dark sheets on cold, but I can say for sure that hot works!

Thanks for the suggestion! I've noticed myself doing that even before I read your post (out of necessity, I really did occasionally have something specific and time sensitive to do), and it worked! So I think I'm going to start doing that from now on, even if it's a self imposed deadline (gotta get this email out in the next half hour! sort of deal).

I just saw that it was to prevent molding... I dunno! Never tried it!

Ack! What is business attire for women? I am going to an invite only dinner on Sunday and the attire is "business".I don't own a suit. But I have suit components. Do I need a suit? Or is.. black pencil skirt with a cardigan okay? Or dress pants? This is for my job, but I am more escorting someone there, but it is a collaboration my department needs to retain. I tend to overthink things... Halp!

mohawk, I think that this really depends on where you are and your field itself. I would think that individual components would be fine (ie pencil skirt or dress with blazer, pencil skirt with blouse and cardigan, etc.). For me, business is more about looking polished than about the actual components, and especially for a woman, there is a lot of leeway.

I have a business wear related stupid question! How often do people clean blazers? They have to be drycleaned, and I'm not in the habit of dry cleaning anything, except for the occasional fancy dress pre/post wedding. I would think I should have them cleaned fairly often, as I tend to sweat in them occasionally while on site visits in warmer weather, but frequent dry cleaner trips add up. My sister has had good luck with Dryel, so perhaps that in combination with the occasional dry cleaner's visit would be a good mix?

What do you do, glitters who wear blazers/suits to work?
