Hi G. I could use some knitting motivation! I haven't knit anything really for like 2 years, though I've kind of half-assedly started a few projects in that time. A FB friend of mine (honestly someone I'm not sure I really like...it's A's friend's wife...) is always talking about her knitting on FB, and it has reminded me how much I loved knitting! My last project was a cardigan for A and I started it when I was starting my master's work. Well, I'm starting my dissertation (if I ever get an idea), so this is the right time, right?!
I have some gorgeous regia sock yarn that I haven't seemed to find the right project for, but I think this time I've settled on this! .
I have some gorgeous cascade eco-wool leftover from making A's cardigan, so I'm planning to knit it up into this guy .
And I have a ton of lower quality yarn my grandma sent to me, and I think I might put it to use making some cookies[/url,] [url=http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sweetie-candy-corsage-brooch] candies, doughnuts and other sweets to use as decor at our wedding (dessert) reception (theme: never could be sweeter than with you)
I might also use the not-fab quality yarn to make a sweater for my sister's Boston Terrier. I'm pretty sure he won't notice that I used acrylic instead of 100% wool for him ;) He loves his sweaters for trips outside in the winter!
So...what are you working on?! :)

I always have a million projects on the needles; am constantly casting on projects on Rav and then frogging them and deleting them.
Be my Rav friend if you wanna see -- I'm wendelgee! :)
What I wanted to share though was that last June I moved all of my stuff into storage and have spent the last year (due to a one-semester research leave from my job) living in furnished sublets in three different cities. As part of that project, I seriously downsized all of my yarn -- got rid of the yarn I absolutely wasn't going to use, and decided to stashbust until I knit through my stash. During that time I've purchased yarn once -- for a project that was going to use stash yarn, but that needed more. I'm still not done, but my stash is definitely dwindling. I'm pretty proud of it! And I know my stash will never get quite so out of control ever again. _________________ Washing one's hands of the conflict between the powerful and the powerless means to side with the powerful, not to be neutral. - Paulo Freire |

I added you and joined the G* group! :) I love finding patterns on rav, but I'm not really active on there...guess I should change that :)
Good job with your stashbusting!! The only reason I will purchase more yarn right now is if I "need" it for a specific project (Like if my future hubs' "The Dude" sweater is to be real lol), but I'm def trying to get projects that will downsize the stash -- this yarn has just been taking up space and moved with me TWICE! _________________ With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. |

BTW, I forgot to mention in my previous post ... I love that Baktus pattern! What a great way to use pretty sock yarn!! _________________ Washing one's hands of the conflict between the powerful and the powerless means to side with the powerful, not to be neutral. - Paulo Freire |

I've been working on a crochet blanket for about a month now- but I've run out of yarn and am waiting for more to arrive.
This is the pattern I'm using http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/african-flower-hexagon-crochet-tutorial _________________ We are none of us alone

I have been working on a cardigan for AGES! I'm making a long-sleeved, zipped version of this one that I made earlier in the year. I don't have any recent photos, but here's one progress shot from a while ago, I really love the color:

I also have a few small things going, a hat and an experimental pair of gloves. I also have some hemp yarn in stash that I think I'm going to turn into a mesh summery wrap. Of course I've been super busy lately so I have no idea when I'm going to get all this done, but it's nice to have plans :) _________________ Studio Marlowe knitting patterns: 15% off with code "yellowboards" |

I have many, many ends that need to be woven in on little projects.
& I've started a shawl and a cowl that are a bit more complex than usual, and both have mistakes in the lace that I don't know how to go back and fix. How do people figure out how to unknit/redo bits that aren't stockinette? Really, I need some advice. How do people gain these skills? I wanna learn too. The only way I know how is to rip the whole thing out and start again without making any mistakes. Yuck. _________________ "My power doesn't come from other people's lust for my awesome vagina, thanks." - Enzyme

I think (like with many things) it's best to start small. Like, fixing one yarn over or accidental missed k2tog, not too hard--fixing an entire panel of mistakes, much much trickier. In my experience also, the first few times, things probably will go "badly". Just be patient, don't beat yourself up, and keep trying. Also, things are (obviously) easier to fix if you only have to work down a couple of rows, as opposed to fixing something that went wrong 6 inches ago (in those cases I usually just let the mistake stay there! Generally nobody but you will notice.) _________________ Studio Marlowe knitting patterns: 15% off with code "yellowboards" |

Mhmm. Right now I am working on a cowl with a really simple eyelet type stitch pattern on one section - it's a yo, sl1, k1, pass slipped stitch over kinda deal. Two rows down, I started the stitch pattern one stitch early so the whole thing is noticeably jogged. I can drop down the stockinette stitches to get to that row and fix it, but I can't figure out how to put the other stitches back on the needles/unknit just from looking.
Maybe I really will start over a fourth time, but I could have made three of these already, considering the overall amount of knitting I've done so far. Anyway. Gah! _________________ "My power doesn't come from other people's lust for my awesome vagina, thanks." - Enzyme

The Crumblette asked me to knit her a scarf (which is, coincidentally, the only thing I know how to knit so I think she's under the impression that scarves are the only objects that can be knitted). I told her I would and that she could pick out whatever yarn she wanted. Which, of course, was an awful mistake because she picked out this:
It's the ugliest yarn in existence, it's a nightmare to work with, and the end result is going to be way too scratchy to wear so it will just be this big shiny red rectangle laying around my house. We'll probably end up using it as Christmas decoration, because it's basically made out of the same material as tinsel garland.
The things I do for that kid. |

everyone's projects sound/look so pretty!
bookselves -- I tried a lace pattern for this sock yarn I'm making into the baktus...since I'm basically now turning into a triangle, you can guess how my lace skills worked out! ;)
crumb, that's so funny! it's scratchy instead of soft? I expect eyelash yarn to be as soft as it looks, too bad, especially since it's not fun to work with! _________________ With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. |

Crumb, my aunt made me a scarf out of that yarn and while it's not super soft, it's not itchy either. Maggie and I fight over it :-)
Stitches Midwest is coming up and so I'm trying to knit down my stash. My latest project was an upholstered headboard made from crocheted granny squares. I wanted it to look scrappy and yet still cohesive, so I decided I would stick with one color scheme. I gathered all the pinks and reds from my stash. I varied the squares by sometimes doing only the first round in the center color, sometimes doing two rounds or three. Only two squares are identical and that was accidental. I even used eyelash yarn (very sparingly) so there are little puffs here and there.
I actually built the wood headboard, covered it with foam left over from the window-seat cushion I made, covered it with quilt batting that wasn't big enough for a quilt, and then covered THAT with a piece of muslin (because you can see through the holes in the squares). Then I hand stitched the crocheted part to a fabric backing and closed the bottom seam with concealed safety pins (so it can be removed if necessary for cleaning. My dad helped me hang it. I am super proud.
Right now I'm working on a yoga mat bag. I made it through four classes of pilates and I'm getting my own mat, so I'm making a bag.
Next up will probably be a shrug-type-thing out of some lovely Interlacements from someone else's stash :-) Some of my knitter friends have more money than self control :-) and so they destash and I reap the benefits!!!!
Oh, I've also been on a cowl kick. They are just the perfect project for using up an odd ball of yarn or two that's not enough for anything else, but too much to call "scrap". I've made 4 already. _________________ "Fun is where you find it" - jackierocket |

Um, this sounds AMAZING!!! Do you have any pictures? We're in the process of moving our bedroom and building a floor bed, so this sounds like something that would be awesome as a headboard of sorts. _________________ good, clean, fair.

Haha, okay, well, I sent Figwit a PM, but I'll just post it here, I'm having technical difficulties at the moment in posting pictures. If someone PMs me their email address, I will happily message the pic from my cell phone. Then that person can feel free to post it in the thread if they can!
