Are you a rearranger like I am?

Every few months, I like to move our bed and dressers around in our room, change the arrangement of our desks and whatnot in the living room, to make things feel fresh and different without actually spending money. Plus, I get to clean really well underneath those areas, and get a different view out of my windows.

James does not understand this urge at all. He thinks it is totally silly to keep moving things around (at most every 3 months! it's not every weekend!) when everything is fine just the way it is, and he grouched his way through moving our bed across the room last night-- pulling the mattress off, scooting two platforms around, putting the mattress back on. 10 minutes tops. He says it feels more homey to keep things the way they are, I say it's boring and gets on my nerves!

So what do you do?

I tend to leave stuff alone, unless it's really not working for some reason, or if we replace furniture and it no longer seems to go. Partly because I tend to live in small places where there's really only one place for the bed (for example) to go, I think.

Thinking about it, though, our living room could do with a bit of a shake-up. Hmm.

We have a lot of built-in features because our house is so old, so it's hard to rearrange things in other combinations that are actually comfortable. I do like to switch up the smaller stuff, like move around pictures/accessories.

My husband is similar to J in the sense that he doesn't exactly see the point. He usually compliments the finished result (and helps with the work, if I ask)... but I doubt he'd be compelled to do it on his own.

I just read him this post and he laughingly agrees.

We occasionally move around the furniture, but not very often. Our floors scratch fairly easily, so it's not easy to drag the furniture around. I would change things more often if we had carpet or more durable flooring.

When I lived in a dorm room, I switched things up almost every month. I got bored of it so fast! But, now that we're in a house, it's not such a hamster cage feeling.

I used to move stuff around more often. I also used to move in general more often.

We can't really rearrange much in our house. The furniture only fits a certain way. I'd like to switch up the living room, but I just don't think it's possible. Our bedroom for sure can't work any other way because of the shape of the room.

I've moved stuff around in my office, but more out of necessity.

I'd move stuff around more if we could.

In some rooms I like to switch things up, but mostly its because we are still working on everything and haven't exactly figured out how everything "goes" yet. Like you we are mainly rearranging what we own.

I like a little bit of change, even if its putting up the "spring" curtains and taking down the heavy winter ones, things like that.

I totally get it!

If it were easier, I would do it often too! In our current location though, there are only a couple of arrangements that work due to layout, so we don't do it so often. In one of the rooms the furniture is so heavy (huge expedit bookcase, massive sofa bed) that it isn't pratical to do it often. So instead, we move the artwork around. Or take it all down and enjoy bare walls for a bit, then put it back up differently. Currently we're enjoying a bunch of maps.

When I lived at home though . . . yeah. My mom and I would change things around every couple of months.

I enjoy rearranging things, but a lot of times I'll rearrange accesories before furniture. Now that I have a roaming toddler and I'm pregnant the heavy stuff is staying put! I did rearrange my room not too long ago to ge ready for when the next one comes. I tried to do some tiny things today but it didn't really work out. Also, a lot of our furniture has been moved around to be more toddler/family friendly so even though I'm not thrilled about ALL the asthetics, there isn't a point in doing anything different at this point.

Generally I don't like rearranging furniture. I personally see it as a huge huge hassle, and totally unnecessary for the most part.

I mean, if it's not broken, don't fix it is my mentality towards layouts.

I only move things around if something happens in my life and I need a change.
I rearranged this room about 3 years ago and now it's pretty much the same. My thought process is, that generally only a certain layout works best with my furniture, so I really don't see the point in moving things around constantly. In fact, it would probably drive me absolutely bonkers to live with someone who decided to do that all the time. [sorry]
My neighbor is the same as some of you guys though. She rearranges things ALL the time. Which is cool. It's always fun to see how different the living room is when we go, but I have to say, I was kind of sad when it was all different.

I just like to figure out the arrangement I like best and stick with it.

I change accessories around, and stuff like that. But the main furniture stays put.

I love rearranging furniture! Mr. Whywhy thinks it's pretty funny. If I find one perfect way that everything works, I will leave that room alone, but then rearrange the lighting or knick knacks or something.

I don't get the urge to rearrange furniture very often. In fact, almost never. My bedroom is pretty small, and the king size only fits in there a certain way. I like the way the living room is arranged, and the spare bedroom is fine - I use the bed for a laundry dump, anyway, and it's so hideous in there! I'm telling you! Peacock blue walls, mustard paint on the doors and all the trim and windows, with the most barfalicious tacky border in fall leaves of brown, orange and mustard. WTF? The previous owners had ABYSMALLY bad taste. You should have seen the dining room before I painted the wallpaper grey - it was olive, purple and brown stripes. Olive, purple and brown! Anyway, I digress.

My mother, on the other hand, lives to rearrange furniture. She does that in her house like once every couple of months. And she comes over to my house and rearranges my furniture, too!

My living room only works one way because of the cable.

I can't arrange my bedroom any differently because it would be worse feng shui. My bed is on the one solid wall. You shouldn't sleep under a window because that is not a strong firm wall but I think it's worse to sleep with your feet facing the door because that is how they will carry you out in a coffin. Right now the door is cutting into my bed which is not ideal but that's the lesser of the evils.

I rearranged my daughter room today. She was handed down a play kitchen and I needed a place for it to go. The arrangement isn't complete because once a crib for the new one is bought we'll be taking out furniture, but I managed to put all the "big" toys neatly on one wall, put our chest freezer in the closet (we didn't have room in the kitchen) and purge and organize a buttload of toys.
