Last week we added a bunch of plants around our house, and ended up digging up bulbs from some spring flowers (I'm not sure what they are? Crocus and Hyacinths I think?)

FYI, I have a black thumb, and know absolutely zero about bulb plants.

I packed them in some dirt while I try to decide what to do with them, but can I just put them back in the ground? Should I wait for fall?

Also, some of them were damaged a bit, will they survive?

Probably the best would have been to replant them as soon as they were discovered. You can still plant them now or wait until fall. If you wait, pull them out of the dirt and store them in a paper bag in a cool dark place.

If they are damaged I would still plant them. Whats the worst that could happen? They compost.

Drat.

I suppose roasting in the sun in a pot with dry dirt was the worst thing then? (It has been really really hot and dry here lately so they're not much worse off than what's still in the ground)

It's not the end of the world if I've killed them, but they've survived, and have been multiplying the two years we've lived here, and they're so very pretty in spring.

Unfortunately they were pretty much the only things planted in the front of our house, which is totally useless for the majority of the growing season.

What conditions "force" bulb flowers?

Stick them back in the ground! They might be ok.
