I want to kill one of my colleagues. OK, not actually kill; I just don't want to have to deal with her, ever, let alone all day Monday-Friday. She and I take the same lunch hour, and I prefer to sit at my desk to eat, if I'm not going out, than sit in the break area with her. She talks about work all lunch time! We work in office admin, which is not the kind of thing I like to chat about while we aren't being paid. And on top of that she's pretty hopeless at her job! She's doesn't report to me, but she is supposed to support me (and the others on my level in our team). She's bad at this because she is a terrible listener, repeatedly asks the same basic questions, makes mountains out of molehills and talks in this strange, nervous manner that just plain gets on my tits, if you will pardon the expression. _________________ kittens are cute, but a full-grown cat can be cuter

I'm not thrilled with my temp-coworker either. She's very whiney. As far as Im concerned, I get paid by the hour... and if my log-ins aren't ready or if I have to do double or triple work... so be it. We started the same project late Tuesday and I was finished Saturday morning (I worked the weekend - $$$) she just finished this afternoon. Saturday/Sunday I started and completed another project and then Monday I did both of our portions of yet another project. Since I'm staying late tonight and working tomorrow (Holiday) I will probably complete both projects again. She's so effing slow. I'm probably a little faster than average but I'm also sucking up the O/T and would like to have something to show for the time I'm here. The apartment across the hall got broken into this morning while my neighbor was at work. I was home with K and I didn't hear anything out of the ordinary, nothing that would make me look through the peephole. The neighbor came over in a panic and I went over and she showed me everything that was missing (lots of jewelry, lots of cash). in addition, she showed me how her window over the fire escape was slightly open and the blinds were bent.
the cops take 2 hours(!) to show up and they come to take my "statement" (which is that I didn't hear anything) but then the guy goes into this rant about how the whole thing is "weird" and how "only the valuables were taken" (not the tv, etc) "someone knew where to look" and starts telling me that I'm allowed to change my locks and NOT give the landlord the key. ("if it's an emergency, we could come break down the door.") heavily implying that the landlord had something to do with it. I asked him about the window and he said "no one came in through that window".
So... I don't really know what to make of all this. Sort of makes me want to move though.

I'm in charge of IT for one of my businesses.
We've been having some issues about things not getting done, things that could be solved by people writing a note in the diary on the counter to say that X needs doing.
One of the others has taken this as an opp to say "I always thought we should be doing all of this online, we should use X website". X website charges, and we need to be keeping expenses to a minimum at the moment.
Before we've had a chance to discuss this, she has gone off and set up a trial and starting assigning tasks to me.
I am ropable.
Not least because if there's a way of mucking up a process, she will find it. So I don't want to be bound by her processes. I wonder how she would feel if I started going in and redesigning all our branding material (her area of responsibility).

So I got a promotion at work a few months ago, and its only in the past month or so that I'm actually doing my new duties. Thing is, I still interact with the same group of people, just in a slightly different way. And today I was having a discussion with someone, and everytime I would ask a question, or try to find a way to solve the issue we're having, he'd say something like "Well, you took the promotion, now you have to deal with it!" or "Now you're making the big bucks! Deal with it!". Frustrating. Yes, I did take a promotion, and I did get a small salary increase, but you know what? Our jobs are to interact together to find solutions, not to say "Oh, that's your problem now!". It's not. He's an "expert" at what he does, I'm a "not quite expert" at what I do, and we have to use our different expertise together to solve our issues . . . whether I have one job title or another. Salary shouldn't come into play. _________________ i live at the foot of a mountain: some of my adventures |

I have to work today after having the 4th off and going in only 1/2 day tomorrow. Really, with our office being this slow we should have just closed for the rest of the week.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind so much but things are PAINFULLY slow at work. I have to scrounge to come up with more than an hour's worth of billable work. After that it is all cleaning up the office etc. There isn't even much of that anymore since I made great progress in that area last week. I hate being bored at work, I'd rather be home without pay. |

Speaking of bored at work... this morning we're waiting for some instructions after a system change. No problem. You'll never hear me say I'm bored when I'm getting paid. I'll find something to do ... check my email, brush my hair, make my shopping lists, write in my journal. We are far from without work to do... its just on a hold for a couple hours.
My neighbor is sighing like a damned clydesdale because she's bored -- Bitch, I did all your work all week! I was here until 7:30 last night, and will probably be here until 8 tonight, tomorrow, Sat and Sun. If I hear, "This is ridiculous" one more time I'm going to slap her. If she worked a little faster she'd know what to do. I can be pretty harsh, and I expect people to be really fast (this is why I'd probably make a productive, but hellacious manager). Seriously, I finished the same project 3 days before she did. _________________ Truth is, everybody is going to hurt you; you just gotta find the ones worth suffering for." -Bob Marley

We are supposed to maintain 80% billability and it's been so slow that I've been 0-20% billable for weeks. I also despise being bored. And it's not that I'm not busy! I'm super busy trying to drum up projects, but it's all work that's so business-y & BORING.
So yeah, billable is my new least favorite word. _________________ <3 free range glitter pony <3

It's my own damn fault, but I'm hungover at work today. Holidays shouldn't be allowed to happen in the middle of the week, and neither should mildly debaucherous parties. _________________ Back in the '70s when disco & exorcisms were all the rage, he was the man. |

It's the day before tax returns are due. I am halfway through mine, as left it at the point last night where I am ready to check all my business transactions to make sure everything (expenses and income) is accounted for before finalising my return.
I have a massive migraine. I went to the gym this morning before I realised and nearly passed out after a few minutes. Driving home was scary. I have spent most of the day in bed, and am about to go back (I had to walk to the dairy to get more painkillers and food I could prepare without sharp knives).
Which means that I will now be spending my birthday doing my tax return rather than fun-birthday like things. :( |

| Thanks Killr :-) Feeling a LOT better today. Amazing how in retrospect you realise how fuzzy your head was in the days leading up to a migraine attack. Still don't want to do my tax return though. *sigh*. And I have to print out all the materials because my tax pack went missing in the mail and the woman I talked to on Thursday refused to grant an extension (which they can totally do if you don't have all the information you need). |

I was going to be productive on this warm, sunny day today but my uterus demanded that I instead sit on the couch with a warm dog on my lap eating chips and watching Six Feet Under all day. Now I just feel lazy and blah :| _________________ No fork left behind! |

Yesterday we went to Pink Saturday, which is like a kind of a gay street fair that is less glittery and house music oriented than the annual Canal Pride in Amsterdam, and also it's not in Amsterdam, and I think I was kind of an ass about the whole thing.
You see, while my friends marched in the trans pride demonstration, we just showed up way late (I was at a wedding the night before, and hence insanely hungover). So basically what we found was a big stage with Dutch folk music (loathe), and a bunch of stands of all kinds of public services, like the police (who told my friend last year that "it's impossible to prove that your beating was a hate crime, so just let it go"), the army (who refuse to acknowledge that it has not yet managed to provide a culture of acceptance for gays - nor is it even trying), and the fire services (okay, they are awesome). And all the bars and such had put lots of pink balloons outside there doors to welcome The Gays, and this elderly woman was telling her partner: "it always makes me feel so warm inside to see how the world has changed!" and I just thought "harumph. There are thousands of gay people in town today, of course they want to serve us expensive drinks - gay money is money too!" And the whole thing just felt so stupid and commercialized to me - like it was all just a huge image campaign for companies and organizations to show how MODERN and ACCEPTING they are. And I hated the music, and I was bored and then someone accidentally burned me with their cigarette. And I was projecting all of that on the people who were dancing, and kind of hating them and mocking them in my mind.
And then I realized that I was being really agist and classist, and I apparently just couldn't bear seeing gay people have a good time unless they were young and urban and queer and political and hypercritical like me. Waaa! I was being horrible! The only redeeming factor is that I kept my trap shut. Thank God for that modicum of self-control.
It's always really sobering to notice when you are behaving like an entitled, elitist ass. Blargh. I feel a little dirty now. _________________ The plural of anecdote is not data.
