Hey glitter-

So I've recently decided it's time to really commit to making the switch from a vegetarian who doesn't eat a lot of dairy to one who doesn't eat it at all...aka, go vegan. It's been going pretty well so far (yay!). I know there are a few other vegans or vegan-curious on glitter and I was thinking it would be fun to have a vegan-themed swap. I don't know a ton of vegans IRL so it would be cool to trade info and stuff with glitters! Would anyone be interested? Stuff to swap might include:

recipes
vegan snacks or baked goods
vegan literature
cool crafts that don't involve animal products

or just anything else cool and non-animal that you think your swap partner would like. I'm thinking a mailout date in mid/late september so that it doesn't start running into secret snowflake.

Anyway, post back or PM me if it's something your interested in, and if we have enough interest I'll organize dates, likes/dislikes questions, etc. Also let me know if there is a $$ range you would like put on the package (I'm thinking no more than $10-15 on actual new purchases, and then supplement as you like with supplies or items you already own).

I'm possibly interested. This swap sounds right up my alley. However, my wedding is in two days, so I'm a bit preoccupied!

I'll be back online next Wednesday, and I'll check this thread again.

Heh, a wedding is definitely a good excuse for preoccupation!

Well, one definite and one maybe other participant is good enough for me. Let's do it!

ETA: here are the participants I have addresses for (I'll be accepting addresses until midnight PST)

Moi (Purpledoor)
scaredsi11y
silverfish2007
cloche
vintagehybrid

If you PMed me your address and you aren't on the list...PM me again and we'll get it sorted out. I will PM everyone by sometime Friday to let them know who their partner is.

Shall we say a sign up deadline of August 26th (next Wednesday), and then mail out by the end of September? If you want to participate, PM me your address by then and also post back here with your likes/dislikes (list below--let me know if there's other stuff you think ought to be on there). I'll get swap partners organized by the end of next week.

Favorite color?
Flavors?
Scents?

Colors/flavors/scents you can't stand?

Any dietary restrictions other than no animal products (gluten, sugar, etc.)?

1-2 sentences about why you became vegan?

Any other info you think your swap partner should know? i.e. your home decor style, jewelry preferences, music you like, pets, etc.

pmed you!

Favorite color: black, red, blue, dark teal, gray
Flavors: any? heh
Scents: i dont like heavily perfumed things. i guess my favorite scents are food smells like cinnamon, mint, cucumber, etc. or "clean" smells like linen, etc.

Colors/flavors/scents you can't stand: i cant stand the colors brown and orange, and i hate raw onions.

Any dietary restrictions other than no animal products (gluten, sugar, etc.)? nope. besides not liking onions!

1-2 sentences about why you became vegan? the big three: for the animals, for my health, for the planet. in that order.

Any other info you think your swap partner should know? i.e. your home decor style, jewelry preferences, music you like, pets, etc
i cant get a lot of vegan stuff around here, id love to receive vegan chocolate or candies, vegan marshmallows, recipes, jewelry, food, bath/body stuff especially lip balm!, hair clips/barettes, anything really. i have one (not vegan) doggie.

Oh, I missed this, I'm in if you are still taking participants. Will be back tomorrow to answer all the questions.

****

Edited to answer the questions finally:

Favorite color? orange. blue and green are nice too
Flavors? almond, lemon
Scents? not sure, just not the ones below ;)

Colors/flavors/scents you can't stand? licorice, patchouli, strong florals

Any dietary restrictions other than no animal products (gluten, sugar, etc.)?
nope!

1-2 sentences about why you became vegan?
I did it for animal rights reasons and that's still my motivation.

Any other info you think your swap partner should know? i.e. your home decor style, jewelry preferences, music you like, pets, etc.
I live with a partner and 2 non-vegan cats, have pierced ears, and have a mish mash of things as far as style. I sew and knit.

Okay folks, I am a slacker, but....everyone should have a name and address to mail a package to by now. Let me know if you don't. Let's say the mail out deadline is September 30, which should avoid too many conflicts with, oh...secret snowflake, holiday crafting crunches, etc.

Feel free to PM me or post to the thread if there are questions or whatnot. Have fun! I'm excited to put a package together!

I guess since I'm organizing this thing I should actually answer my own questionnaire, eh?

Favorite color: Greens, purple, pink, blue. My kitchen/living room are mostly greens/yellow/brown.
Flavors: Chocolate :) I like most stuff
Scents: Vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, light florals, clean scents. Nothing too heavy or strong.

Colors/flavors/scents you can't stand: I really can't stand heavy perfumes. I am also not a fan of bananas.

Any dietary restrictions other than no animal products (gluten, sugar, etc.): Nope!

1-2 sentences about why you became vegan? I stopped eating meat (and then dairy) mostly for environmental sustainability reasons. I was especially horrified by how much water meat production consumes. Crazy! I will admit I am not a huge animal rights vegan, although I think CAFOs, etc. are pretty vile.

Any other info you think your swap partner should know? i.e. your home decor style, jewelry preferences, music you like, pets, etc. No pets, I live in a small apartment and I'd describe the decor as minimalist/slightly 1970's. I do have pierced ears. I love to cook so I would love to get some new recipes to try out! I listen to all sorts of music, lots of folk and bluegrass mostly but I also have a total weakness for cheesy pop music and hip-hop (people are always shocked by that). Craftwise I knit a lot and sew a little.

I copied most of this from my RAK list, but I thought it seemed more organized to put it here:

Favorite colors: black, gray, indigo, autumn colors
Favorite scents and/or flavors: cinnamon, almond, coconut, ginger peach, green tea, patchouli, vanilla, plum, pear, mango

Colors/flavors/scents I dislike: anything neon, bright pink, licorice, gardenia, strong florals

No other dietary restrictions, other than I don't drink alcohol.

I've been a vegetarian for eight years, while still eating cheese and ice cream occasionally as treats. I've recently decided to cut out dairy completely, and I'm excited that this swap came at just the right time!

Home Decor: I like antiques and Halloween. I prefer house stuff that is functional in some way. I live in a historic carriage house.

Jewelry: I generally only wear my nose ring and simple wedding band every day. I don't have pierced ears anymore. I have very short hair, so I don't usually use any hair accessories.

Pets: None.

ETA: I thought I'd add some other food likes/dislikes because I would really love to receive tried-and-true recipes. I was only thinking of the possibility of receiving actual baked goods when I wrote my original post, so I'm making this addition...

I absolutely loooove cooked mushrooms, especially portobellos. (Although sadly, mr. scaredsi11y does not feel the same way!) Any recipes prominently featuring mushrooms would be very much appreciated by me.

I also like (in no specific order - heh) red onion, broccoli, tomatoes, red and green peppers, spinach, corn, peas, squash, sweet potatoes and regular potatoes. I love black beans, and "creamy" soups, but not so much vegetable-stock based soups. I like rice and pasta, and I'm getting more into casseroles. My favorite recipes are generally Italian, Mexican, or "comfort food" adaptations. I also like Indian a lot.

Cooked cauliflower and cabbage are not my favorites. Carrots are okay in small doses. I really dislike celery and any kind of peanut sauce. (Although I do like peanuts, just not in sauce.)

I forgot to ask... is this a chain swap, or are we receiving something from the same person we're sending to?

I'm so excited to get started!

Oh, I set it up as a chain. So there's a little element of surprise there :)

Favorite colors: i pretty much like all colors, but especially bright ones
Favorite scents and/or flavors: chocolate! berries, nuts, vanilla, mint, peanut butter

Colors/flavors/scents I dislike: strong florals

No other dietary restrictions, other than I hate olives.

I've been vegan for 3+ years and vegetarian for 3-4 years before that. The main reason was for animal welfare, but environmental and health reasons have become important as well.

Home Decor: I like vintage things. I like knick-knacky things but do live in New York now and don't have a lot of space for them. (see my room in this post: http://www.supernaturale.com/glitter/viewtopic.php?t=46334&highlight= )

Jewelry: I like big earrings and smallish ones too. I have large hands, so bangles must be sized accordingly. I have long dreads, so not all hats and hair things work for me.

Pets: One gray rabbit!

Other notes: I like knitted, crochete, handmade things in general. I have a lot of choices here for vegan treats and do have a lot of cookbooks but wouldn't mind seeing your favorite recipe.
