Ooo chairs! That's gonna be rad!
This weekend I did some cleanup and cut out last year's old dead stuff.
I am planning on planting more things from seed this year and I have nooooo idea when to get started due to Colorado's crazy late frosts. I will start my tomatoes and stuff inside, but even then I have no idea what to do about timing. I also want to make a bed for them so they don't strangle my flower garden like last year, and I'm thinking I better get on that soon. We want to extend the sprinkler system with a drip system and it all feels so daunting. I think it will be worth it tho.
Here was my crazy garden last year before the summer blooms. It had a lot of a kind of weed that I thought was going to be a flower. Do not listen to mothers who tell you that weeds are icelandic poppies... :D

killr, I got em on Craigslist. I think I paid $40 for both and the guy delivered them. There are always a bunch of them on our Craigslist every week. _________________ be good to yourself. |

i am at a complete loss for how to plan my garden and get it going.
i had a garden two years ago but i bought plants from the nursery. i really want to start my own seeds.
how do i know when to start what? when to plant what? i mean i know i can look on the seeds themselves, but it seems like there has to be some way of going about it in a more organized fashion. _________________ candy to carrots |

| There is a woman on Ravelry who is giving away luffah seeds, free for the asking. Im pretty excited about growing luffahs. |
I'm jealous of anyone who can makes luffahs grow. I tried one year and I got vines, but no fruit (not even flowers). SIIIIGH.
In my veggie garden I usually do one experimental crop and then the usual stuff. Haven't decided what it's going to be this year. Maybe I'll try luffahs again... or hops. I wouldn't mind brewing my own beer (I think hops are perennials though? Might have to do those in another spot).
The only crop that never fails me is tomatoes. No matter what happens, I always have a decent tomato harvest - which is good because I looooooooooooove tomatoes.
I think I'm going to buy bedding plants this year instead of starting seeds. I really like starting seeds, but rambunctious puppy + plant eating cats + lack of sunlit windows = disappointment.
We still have 3 feet of snow though, so planning is all I can do for now. *pout* _________________ "There will be a night sometime in the next week or two where I just put a podcast on and start gluing shit to myself. It will be a fine night." - enzyme |

Argh, I want a garden! I spent yesterday night looking at gardening forums and I want to grow everything. :-/
Last year I didn't do any container gardening at all because I was away all spring, the year before that I tried chilies, swiss chard and a couple of kinds of beans (which failed miserably because my balcony was extremely windy). This year I have a very dark balcony that's actually pretty gross, but I think some plants would improve its appearance as long as they can survive the shade.
Yesterday I sowed some chili seeds (harvested from the chilies I grew in 2007) and some leftover chard seeds, I hope they germinate. I'm also planning to plant a ginger rhizome, but beyond that I haven't decided. The chilies and ginger (if it works out) will probably stay indoors unless we have a heat wave, but I want something for the balcony as well. Thinking about trying hops to cover one of the balcony walls, and then some leafy greens like pak choi. Physalis would be lovely too (though it needs sun so I guess not), or sugar snap peas, or rhubarb, or various herbs like coriander... |
