What have you made/crafted for your babies?

I'm looking for cheaper and/or healthier alternatives than buy buy buying all the plethora of baby stuff that is mass marketed out there.

So far, I've made my own washclothes, diaper inserts and plan to make up my own formula for baby wipes.

I've been looking for fabric to make my own m*by style wrap, but no dice so far. The only fabric I can find is more expensive than just buying the wrap itself. I will have to wait until I can make it to a city.

I'm semi planning on making my own 'keepsake' memory thingie out of clay and plaster of paris for a hand print or footprint, but I'm not committing to that actually happening.

I bought a bunch of clearance flannel to make receiving blankets. Maybe wipes and diaper inserts, eventually - but I have to get more familiar with all that stuff first. I'm fairly clueless :)

I've mentally threatened myself with a crib size quilt (featuring cryptids) and dyeing onesies with every color of dye I own, but haven't followed through on either of those things. Today I was accepted into my first craft show, so I have to focus on the stuff I'm selling, which is not baby stuff. Sooooo we'll see what I have time and energy for. I'm leaving my job after the baby is born so I'll (hopefully) have more time to make things after I assess our needs and develop preferences.

I'll probably come back to this, but if I don't say this now I'll forget.

One of the local moms I know made her own "Foby" wrap. She made two for about $20. Fabric from the clearance rack. It make take some recon work on your end, but it can be done. I think she's even considering a ring sling next!

ETA: Maybe it's a "Fauxby", but the other spelling looks better. :)

We cloth diaper so R has about 8 pairs of wool pants, and I just sewed a handful of baby pants/bloomers designed for cloth diapers for when he wears the flip covers.

I sewed about 12 bibs made of quilting cotton, birdseye cotton (the same material as prefolds/flats), and organic cotton as a backing.

Lots of knitted hats, vests, sweaters, socks, etc.

All of our wipes are made of cut up receiving blankets or flannel that was on clearance.

I sewed my diaper bag and the changing pad a few days before I gave birth, and I still absolutely love it.

A big box of organic cotton jersey just arrived that's waiting to be sewn into shirts for R. We don't ever use onesies, and finding organic cotton shirts is difficult in plain colors.

I've knitted a bunch of balls, bowls, assorted toys.

I love knowing that R is wearing something homemade 99% of the time :)

This thread is really cute! I like seeing all the things you've made for your little ones.

But when I saw the title, I imagined turkey basters.

Carry on.

I made mei tai wrap that I used like CRAZY - it was actually more comfortable than the beco carrier I also had - but the ties are very long which was awkward sometimes...

I sewed flannel sleep sacks out of old receiving blankets, made some bibs, sewed her some jazzy leggings out of old sweaters & shirts

knit soakers, a couple of cardigans, hats, dresses & tops

I made her little red riding hood halloween costume

Kneesocky, did you make a pattern or use one from online? I found several online, and they all look similar but each tutorial seems different.

Im also not sure if I want to make one with big wide straps that cap the shoulder or padded straps like you see on school backpacks.

hi, its me again.

Has anyone made a wet bag?

Or instead of a wet bag is it insane to just use a plastic trash can and hose it out every time I do laundry?

I am not a great seamstress, but I made a lot of cute wet bags. They are relatively quick, and you need them (or something, like a plastic grocery bag) when you go out. At home, yeah, a pail/tub.trash can is the way to go. I used this tutorial:
http://onceuponbaby.blogspot.com/2010/01/kitchen-wet-bag-tutorial.html

Heads up- it's a bigger wet bag, which is good for an overnight trip, or for swimsuits on the way home :)
I just made it half as big or so for the best errand running size (same width, half the length). I gut PUL from Jo-Ann's, and they have some that is already patterned, so you could save a step and not use fabric on the outside. I freaking loooooove fabric, though, so I welcome the chance to use it on small projects with straight lines :)

Killr, I'm guessing you're cloth diapering? I used a 5 gal plastic pail and wiped it out if there were visible stains. Every now and then I'd fill it with water and soak oxiclean in it. Tbh, it rarely smelled. I didn't put a lid on it though, I think that would make the plastic smell faster.
