It's so funny to see this thread re-emerge!

My version has changed a little over time:

I no longer use celery (the girlfriend hates it), and use fennel instead. I think I liked the celery better, but I can't remember. It's good with fennel.

I always use a splash of wine.

Instead of pesto, I serve the soup topped with freshly grated parmesan cheese and fresh basil. Works better for me, because I rarely have pesto on hand, but I do have a basil plant and live in the Land of Cheese.

I initially only add one can of chickpeas, cook and then blend the whole thing, then add undercooked pasta (nearly al dente) and the rest of the chickpeas and heat through for a few minutes. Not sure why I started doing that - I just thought that was how I'd always done it.

Hope you'll like it, browneyedgirl!

I made it for my parents the other night, and they devoured it. After making it twice, I think it's a keeper :)

I'm honestly not sure how the Boy liked it. He says he loved it, but that was after making a I don't like it type comment.

The Rosemary is different, he's never used, and to be perfectly honest I just *really* started cooking 27 ish days ago when Project Cohabitation started. I don't think it was too much, just different.

I brought some for lunch today, and I can say 100% I'll be making it again, if only for myself.

I also got super fun and bought star shaped pasta. :)

Thanks for sharing this recipe! We made it last night wow, soooo good. Luckily I have enough supplies to make another batch. :)

I was wondering if this dish will freeze well? Would love to always have some on hand to enjoy as needed.

Yes and no. If you're planning to freeze it, leave the pasta out. It gets really gross when you freeze and reheat it. You can add the pasta when you're reheating and it's great!

This recipe just made my day!

I've been sick with a nasty cold, and I wanted to find a hearty soup recipe I could make this evening using only the ingredients I had on hand. It was easier than expected, and SO good.

I made it the "new" way... without celery, and with one can of chickpeas added after the puree-ing step. I didn't have any fennel, though!

Bumpity bump!

I finally got around to making this tonight. I have been sick for like a week and we have no groceries at home. I forgot to stop by the store on the way home and didn't want to go back out. The mister was like "what about that pasta and bean thing from glitter"? Heh. We always have beans and carrots and onions and garlic so it was perfect!

Mmmmmmm, it's so good! I can definitely see it going into our regular rotation.

Ooh, thanks for bumping this! I've been trying to think of things I can make to take for lunch at work and this would be perfect (though I might have to use less garlic than I'd like or my colleagues will not love me). I made it before and it was delish.

I've been eating it so much I'm sick of it and don't know if I can have one more bowl.

I use 2 cans of veggie broth and 2 cans of chickpeas in the blender, then dump in 1 can of small white beans.
I use 1 cup orzo instead of spaghetti.

Just had a bowl of it :-)

Is it weird that every time I see a can of chickpeas, I hear a little voice in my head that I have designated "W&P's Voice" go "Pasta e ceci!" because this thread somehow got stuck in my head?

Not weird, because I do the exact same thing.

I'm in the process of making some right now. Yum-my.

Tritto! (except obv. I made it already).

It makes me so happy that Pasta e Ceci are still in rotation! It is a pretty genius dish, isn't it? Those clever Italians!
