| I'm planning on making the diamond top. I've been on the site a few times though, and have found it super slow to load between pages (even on broadband) |

Awesome! I especially like the cape/dress/bag pattern. I'm telling all of my non-glitter seamstress friends! _________________ Isabel Creations: Random Acts of Craftness |

Okay, I know this is silly, but how do you figure out the sizing? I looked at their measurement charts and I can't figure out how to translate my measurements into a size:(
Does it show that I have made very few items more complex than a pillowcase? _________________ my website and knitting patterns

Hi there, you start with your height (that's the first lot of columns, labelled N, L, K). Most average height women would be using sizes 32-60. If you are extra tall you use the sizes 60 plus, or if you are a bit shorter than average you use the lower numbers. So basically scribble out the two columns that don't apply to your height so they don't confuse you. Then you use them like a normal size chart, reading across and circling the sizes that most closely match yours. Then choose the best match. I've used a lot of their magazine patterns, and do find that I tend to go one size smaller than specified, but you should probably make your first item up in calico or other cheap material to check.
Also, the way they are printed, it is really easy to move between sizes. So for example, I'm a bit pear-shaped, with 32-34 inch bust, and between 40-42 inch hips (I yo-yo a bit too). When I'm at the skinny end of my range, I make up 38 tops and 38-40 bottoms (38 for the waist, 40 for the hips/thights). If I'm packing a few pounds I might make a 40 top and 42 bottoms.
Nice thing about Burda patterns is that they usually fit a rounder posterior quite nicely, especially if you take the darts in a bit more than on the pattern.
Hope this helps! |

| Drat, I wasn't reading the measurement charts wrong then....apparently I am just too tall for most of the free patterns:( |
I don't think I've ever seen a "tall" pattern in their magazines, and I got pretty much everyone for 4 or 5 years. Every-so-often they do a petit special. I think most should be quite easily adaptable though, they are the best drafted commercial patterns that I have worked with in terms of pieces fitting (although I've yet to test how they come through the pdf process) |
