| Favorite poem/poets anyone? I read lots and lots of poetry a few years ago, but lately I just haven't explored anything new... |

I Remember
Anne Sexton
By the first of August
the invisible beetles began
to snore and the grass was
as tough as hemp and was
no color--no more than
the sand was a color and
we had worn our bare feet
bare since the twentieth
of June and there were times
we forgot to wind up your
alarm clock and some nights
we took our gin warm and neat
from old jelly glasses while
the sun blew out of sight
like a red picture hat and
one day I tied my hair back
with a ribbon and you said
that I looked almost like
a puritan lady and what
I remember best is that
the door to your room was
the door to mine. _________________ Love Loud, Don't Lose Loud.--Mates of State |

Oh, Emeralde, I'll link my two favourites (and you will be able to tell what my life was like when I first got into her work!)

| The most recent books of poetry I bought were by Alicia Suskin Ostriker and Elizabeth Willis, but old favorites include Paul Muldoon, Kay Ryan (whose new book, "The Niagra River," is just great), Quincy Troupe, Billy Collins, Yusef Komunyaaka, and Fanny Howe. |

Thank you all, I've started to read some of Anne Sexton, and I really feel that I have to read a lot of them through several times. I like them and some of them really speak to me though, so thank you so much!
Will write down the other writers and the books and look into them asp! |

Lorna Dee Cervantes: Her book Emplumada is amaaaaazing. Two of my particular favorites from that include "Beneath the Shadow of the Freeway" and "Poem for the Young White Man Who Asked Me How I, An Intelligent, Well-Read Person, Could Believe in the War Between Races".
Marge Piercy: Can't think of anything in particular, but I read a lot of her awhile ago and loved her.
Sandra Cisneros: The collection Loose Woman is really, really good.
Adrienne Rich: I always misspell her name, so correct me if I got this wrong. Any poem by her is really good, but "Aunt Jennifer's Tigers" is one of my favorite poems of all time.
Langston Hughes: Again, amaaaaazing. The poem "America" gives me chills in my spine every time I read it. Actually, I suggest getting his collected works (at least from the library) -- he's that good.
Sharon Olds: Again, anything by her. There's one that I think has the name "Mrs. Krikorian" in the title, which is amazing, and there's one called "Satan Says" too, which is just breathtaking.
Margaret Atwood: She's not really known as a poet, but she wrote my favorite relationship-gone-sour poem in the world, and it's short, so I'll write it here. It's just such a powerful, packed poem for those moments when a romantic relationship is really hurting you.
You Fit Into Me
you fit into me
like a hook into an eye
a fish hook
an open eye
**************
(Edited 'cuz I got the title of Lorna Dee Cervantes's poem wrong. You can actually find the whole thing here (it's the 2nd poem on the page, but the first one on the page is really good too:

Well, when it comes to poetry i like CHARLES BUKOWSKI
here's one of my favorite:)
I WILL REMEMBER YOUR SMALL ROOM,
THE FEEL OF YOU,
THE LIGHT IN THE WINDOW,
YOUR RECORDS, YOUR BOOKS,
OUR MORNING COFFEE,
OUR NOONS OUR NIGHTS,
OUR BODIES SPILLED TOGETHER,
SLEEPING, THE TINY FLOWING CURRENTS,
IMMEDIATE AND FOREVER,
YOUR LEG MY LEG,
YOUR ARM MY ARM,
YOUR SMILE
AND THE WARMTH OF YOU
WHO MADE ME LAUGH AGAIN.”
