I'm trying to find brand names for coconut- and cashew-based coffee creamers that I've heard exist... I've tried googling and searching the grocery store with no luck so I'm hoping somebody vegan could help me out!

(I'm interested in reducing my dairy intake but allergic to soy - I could try almond or rice milk but something designed specifically for putting in coffee may be my best bet since that is all I'd use it for...)

So Delicious coconut creamer! I got the plain version at Whole Foods and I like it a lot.

Thank you! After I posted I was thinking "I should have just tried Whole Foods, surely they would have it" - I had looked/asked at my regular grocery store, which has a big "natural foods" section, but they had no idea. Although it is good that I checked the So Delicious website, since apparently only one of the two closest WFs to me carries it...

Weird! I just picked up a carton of So Delicious! I tried out the French Vanilla, but I'm not sure I like the flavor. In the future I think I'll just go for the original, and add my own real vanilla syrup if I want it. But I do like the creamy texture! And there's just a hint of coconut taste. I'm looking forward to making my own iced coffee in the morning, instead of being tempted to purchase lattes and mochas on my way to school.

I didn't know So Delicious made coconut creamer. I'm going to look for this at the health store next time I go.

We usually just get vanilla Silk soy creamer. I don't drink coffee, but my husband does. I do like to use creamer though - when making frosting, vegan french toast, etc.

I think it's new - I know I heard somewhere that there was this new, coconut-based creamer.
I'm glad I have Glitter to ask - I have a vegan facebook friend who had posted about the creamer, so I asked her for the brand and she said it was Silk! As far as I can tell from their website, everything Silk has is soy-based so I definitely can't drink it...

I just ordered a product today called MimicCreme (www.mimiccreme.com), which is made from almonds and cashews, and am really looking forward to trying that!

I saw the mimicreme on Amazon.com! I'm interested in trying that too. I heard it's better for cooking than in coffee though...

Well, I haven't been able to find the stupid coconut creamer. I've been to 5 different grocery stores, 4 of them tonight... I guess I've learned my lesson to call ahead and make sure they have it.

I found the minicreme to have an off texture. Might be better in baked goods, but it was just too strange for me in coffee (I <3 real cream though)

eta I am talking about the cream sub, not the creamer.

On their website, I read where the coffee creamer recently won an award, so it must be pretty new: ALBANY, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Green Rabbit, LLC, the manufacturer of MimicCreme, announced today that it is the recipient of the Kosherfest 2009 Best New Product in the Health & Wellness category.

I'm also curious about their cream substitute to use in soups and baking, but that purchase will depend on how well I like the coffee creamer. :)

What about using a tiny bit of coconut milk? Would that taste too strongly of coconut?

I've done that too, and it's good and not too strong tasting, maybe better if you are used to milk in your coffee. The coconut creamer has thickeners and sweetener that make it more like cream/creamer.

My order for MimicCreme came in yesterday and was excited to find out how it would taste in my coffee this morning. Well, the consistency is pretty thick, which isn't necessarily bad for creamer, but it does give it a smoky taste. Weird, huh? I'm guessing that's because of the almonds, and think I could get used to the taste, but still want to compare it to the coconut creamer.

I tried the French Vanilla flavor and love it, too! And I just found dollar-off coupons good for any So Delicious coconut milk products (they make ice cream, milk, yogurt, and kefir too), at their website here: http://turtlemountain.com/products/coupon.html
