I have been interested in getting into grant writing lately, but the resources for this kind of training in my area is nearly non-existent. Does anyone know or have experience with grant writing training? Are there reliable sources online (I looked, but everything I found looked shady and scammy)?

I have a certificate from this program. The teacher is great, and I really enjoyed the class. It's been a couple of years, and I haven't really gotten a chance to use much of what I learned at work, BUT it was totally worthwhile.

I don't know anything about this website/company, but found this one article linked somewhere else and thought it was good:

http://www.grantstation.com/Public/tracks_to_success/Mistakes/1.asp

I have actually never written a grant myself (I will soon) but have been on many many many grant review committees. The advice is pretty solid from my experience on that end.

I can tell you that the most basic piece of advice a person needs to write a grant application (and this could get a smart, good, writer a long way) is:

Answer the questions in the application.

Period. That's it. Be as thorough as possible while still being concise, clear and direct. Make sure that your answers address the questions and follow the directions. If you can't follow the directions or answer the questions, your project, no matter how manazing it may be, will be easily dismissed.

Oooh, thanks for posting that certificate program artichoke! I have been thinking about this as well (as I write my 8th grant proposal) and I think I will sign up for the program!
