Managed to go through the kitchen. I have accumulated a fair bit of baking stuff from the thrift store that I never/almost never used--back to the thrift store it goes! I also have a vaguely obscene number of dishes for one person (again, thrifted...), I managed to make myself give up the ones that were obviously not getting used/not especially attractive.

Thought about getting rid of my coffee maker (I never use it), but I do have coffee drinking friends/family coming to visit in the next couple of months so I guess I'll hold off on that. It was free so I won't feel bad about just dropping it off at the thrift store later.

Off-topic confession time: I bought several items of dry clean only baby clothes when the Crumblette was wee. Mainly things made out of raw silk. Absolutely zero practicality, but then again, she also had 10 pairs of shoes before she was 6 months old so...what I'm saying is, some people are all about the occassional dry clean only baby dress. :)

Project talk: Absolutely nothing has happened. I haven't been home before 7 any night this week and then it's pretty much "Feed Crumblette, feed self, bathe Crumblette, fall asleep by 9." I'm HOPING that today will be a somewhat shorter day so I'll try to make a stab at Step 1 tonight.

Things are going fairly well for me:

Sweater:
I'm about 1/3 of the way through knitting the body. I need to wrangle the kid I'm knitting for and take a couple of measurements...debating whether to make this sweater tunic-dress length. Yesterday I spent most of an afternoon un-knitting back to a spot where an error in the pattern messed up my stitch counts. I was too nervous to frog it! But in the past I would have just said "fuck it" and pressed on & then ended up with something I'm unhappy with, so, you know... good for me, right?

Office:
No actual progress has occurred - I don't have a day off for a bit so I haven't found a day to paint. But in the meantime I am going to take some time in the mornings to declutter my WIPs and go through my desk to get rid of anything I no longer need. Which should make the stash storage portion of the redecorating much easier. I'm also thinking of painting my desk so I am gonna spend some time at work today pinteresting some ideas...[/b]

I jumped ahead and did website stuff this morning. Because my 14-day free trial with SquareSpace is ending next week, I decided I needed to make sure I could handle doing at least a very basic shop page by myself before I committed to switching over. Additionally, the Gov't Free VJJ Project (which I am not directly involved in but has permission to use my photos and link to the pattern page for Womb) has been driving traffic to my broken website. Ugh. So far it looks like I'll be able to do the essentials of what I want to do with SquareSpace, so I'm pretty happy about that.

Now I'm going to have lunch, and then start organizing my tax receipts.

I need to start a new thread about this or something...just say the word and I'll move this post!

Anyways, I wonder if it'd be worth it to sew some Dry Clean Only baby clothes from taffeta. The particular dress would be a 1950's set complete with a "detachable" petticoat that buttons into the dress and a little bum cover since that was the style for little girls back then. I have the ability to do really high level sewing but I've never done it on something like baby clothes. I'm fascinated by the idea of doing fine hand work and whatever on tiny little garments but it'd really have to go to the right person who would appreciate the intricacies of couture level sewing for an infant or toddler.

If any of you got something like that would it just get donated to goodwill or do you think you'd keep something like that for posterity?

Not a parent, BUT...if I were to receive something like that for my hypothetical baby, I'd be sure to get them into it at least ONCE for photos. My mother made me a couple of fairly elaborate dresses when I was young, I wore them fairly often (for things like church or dressy parties), and they are still living at my parents house and when I have kids one of them had better be a girl so I can pass them on!

So basically, yes, if the parents are the type to appreciate what they're getting, it's absolutely worth the effort.

Gah. I haven't done anything towards making the dress except admire the pretty fabric and hold it against my skin!

March 26-31: Choose layout. Do not change my mind 14 times in the process; pick one and stick with it.

Done.

I've chosen the book size (12x12) theme and colors (grey and black) and set up the layout for each section (Before, Year One, Year Two, Year Three, Year Four). Right now each section only has four pages in it, with dummy photos and lorem ipsum text; I'm sure the number of pages will change as I start pulling content off the blog, but that won't be a problem, I'll just add in duplicate pages.

Yay progress!

So, it's April 1, and I hit all of my March goals. Yeah! I also had a long train ride yesterday and was able to use the time to draft a good chunk of the first pattern for my fall "collection", so April is already off to a good start.

wow y'all are awesome! I'm falling a bit behind as I try and figure out Photoshop Elements. I need to change my action plan to one where I can note incremental progress better too.

how's everyone else doing?

I put fifty bucks in the budget for the first set of dresses + notions. I get paid on the fifth so that's when I'll be able to head to the fabric shop.

I have to re-motivate to start digging into the basement. We went out of town for the weekend though, and had two all-night drives, and then were out in the sun and racing motorbikes all weekend. Exhausted, burnt, and still super sleepy. I'm hoping to start chipping away this week and then do a good chunk of the April work this weekend.

I am falling a bit behind. Last weekend was busy (socially) than I thought it would be and I will be interstate for the next two weekends. I can't get to the shops during the week so will have to bow out until i have a normal weekend. annoying :(

Yesterday I bought a lovely fixer-upper of a craft dresser. I am so stoked on it! I went to Michael's to look at the "official" craft supply storage options and they were so costly & plastic-y. Instead I bought an admittedly huge dresser for my stash stuff. It will be happy living in my office/dining room and will work as a sideboard. Yay!

I have been taking my sweater everywhere in my purse and knitting up a storm during all of my downtime.

This thread has been very motivating for me! I love g* for keeping me going.

I met with my friend this morning for a mini sewing consultation about the dress and made plans to meet again this week. She's going to help me fine tune the muslin, adjust my sewing machine, and go over whatever else needs to be done. Yay!
