|
|
Growing up, whenever I'd go to other people's houses, I was intrigued by their coffee cup collection. My mom never drank coffee, therefore, she didn't have her own collection. My grandparents had TONS of coffee cups, but they mostly drank out of white Corelle with green flowers. I will remember those coffee cups forever. I'm a coffee drinker, though not an obsessive one. I have 4 huge white mugs with red cherries on them, four small red FiestaWare mugs, and one mug I got from a gift from Starbucks that is huge and has a blue and yellow abstract design. I like drinking my coffee out of BIG mugs. I don't generally go for the mismatched "1# Mom" and coffee cups with cartoons on them. Still, there are lots of others that do.
What is your collection like? |

I have four yellow Fiestaware mugs, two giant white latte mugs from Target, and then a random smattering. A souvenir mug from Chicago, a mug that I got my dad for his birthday when I was 7 years old, a pretty owl pottery mug. I have a lot of mugs, but I do drink coffee every day, and I can't bear to get rid of any! _________________ beefy and confused. |

We have way too many. I kind of collect them, but really need to cull the boring ones already. _________________ What can't that centaur woman do? |

I love mugs. I use mugs for EVERYTHING, not just my coffee. I have mugs for specific food and drink. I have big huge blue mugs that I use for my meals. I hate using plates and find mugs contain my food much easier. For everything else I have handthrown pottery mugs my cousin made. I actually have too many of these and have selected a few to give to my Dad who also loves them. I have 2 mugs in particular that my cousin made that are PERFEECT for my coffee. Ruby even has a mug I use for her food. It is a petite teacup mug I got from a friend visiting from Germany. When we bought our house our realtor gave us 8 mugs that feature a picture of our house on it and says "Mohawk and Mr. Cool's House". I brought these to work, at it is hilarious to be in a meeting and see my boss or colleague sipping coffee from it... _________________ She believed she could, so she did. |

My mugs are pretty much all thrifted & I'm especially fond of those "name + image" style mugs... like this. Lots of ours are souvenirs from Quebec City trips so some of the names are a bit different from what we hear locally. My first (and still favourite) is a mug with lemons that says "grandma." _________________ "My power doesn't come from other people's lust for my awesome vagina, thanks." - Enzyme

My mugs are a jumble.
I have one each from my favorite two coffee shops in the town where I went to grad school. I bought them the day before I moved because I realized I had no souvenirs from that year.
I have one that says "Edinburgh Castle Prisons of War" which I bought because I thought it was kind of weird and awful that they make souvenir coffee mugs for a prison.
I have a few that my Mom bought me at thrift stores, all with red writing or designs and with names of places I've visited or lived (Tennessee, Canada, etc).
I have one from the museum where I worked the year after college. I have another with a Virginia Woolf book cover printed on it, a gift from a curator I worked with on an exhibit more recently.
My beau has two, one from a restaurant in the city where he worked abroad and another from a newspaper where he interned in college.
I also have one with a romantic painting of a kilted Scotsman; it came with a packet of Walker's shortbread and was a gift from my grandmother.
Our toothbrushes sit in a brown mug that says "Qatar" in gold letters.
I love all my mugs and how mis-matched they are.
ETA: petunia_843, my grandparents used those same Corelle mugs, except theirs had brown flowers! My parents had the ones with yellow flowers and my aunt and uncle had the green flowered ones. _________________ "I tried watching downton abby. mistake. switched to ru paul's drag race." - Lacey Marie |

My favorite mug is green and says "Let it Ring", it was a gift from the folks I played handbells with when I was in high school.
I have a bigger pale blue one with dragonflies on it that my aunt gave me a couple years ago. It's good for soup, as my bowls are shallow.
I got so excited about getting an ice-cream-cone-shaped mug at a restaurant that my dude got me a set of four of them. I like that they stack. They have matching ceramic spoons, too.
Not a mug, but my pens live in a beloved Warwick Castle tumbler with floaty stars and glitter inside it. It won the tackiest souvenier contest in my study abroad program. |

mugs are just one of those items i'm gifted or are thrifted so i never go out of my way to buy them or i'd have way too many. i thankfully pared the collection down to 6 during our last move.
one of my favourites is this mug from anthropologie. my cousin & i have a semi crush on these two gay cdn talk show hosts/interior designers who use these mugs on their show. she bought us both mugs for days when we lived together and would play hooky from work and watch bad daytime teevee.
my mom also gifted me this big green mug that says "MOM LOVES ME BEST" on it. i would never buy this type of design for anybody, but my mom and all 4 of her sisters went on a trip and they bought a mug for each of their two kids... so all 10 of us grandkids have the same ridiculous, cheesy, mom-gift mug.
the rest are thrifted or gifted, including one of those white corelle mugs with the green flowers! _________________ THE MUNDANE IS TO BE CHERISHED |

2 turquoise Fiesta mugs, 2 scarlet fiesta mugs (all thrifted!), and 2 random mugs my husband bought years ago that he can't bear to get rid of. _________________ No fork left behind! |

My mug collection is small, but my tumbler collection has grown to a ridiculous amount because Starbucks Japan has a really cool series of City Tumblers that you can only buy when you visit that city.. there are just a few that I have.

My favourite mug is from a charity shop. It's brown and it's got a very angry-looking (stylised) owl on it.
I don't know if I've ever bought a mug new. We have a ton - even after purging before we moved in October - and only two of them match. I do have a nice set of coffee cups and saucers, which I got in a charity shop. They are all different colours, but they are a set - they're all the same under the glaze. I love them and wish they got used more often, but mugs are more practical. _________________ kittens are cute, but a full-grown cat can be cuter

The cabinet shelf where my parents kept their coffee mugs was always ridiculous and overflowing when I was growing up, so I'm trying hard to keep my own collection minimal.
I have a set of four plain old matte black mugs with a speckled red interior (they came from Target, so I'm sure you've seen them before, haha) that I bought along with the plate and bowl sets when I moved into my first apartment years ago.
There's also a really pretty zodiac mug that I LOVE because it's enormous and I don't have to make a new cup of tea every hour. My best friend and I saw them when we were out shopping one year, then come Christmastime, we exchanged gifts and found matching mugs in the boxes :)
Then lastly, my pride and joy, my old-school McDonald's Garfield mug set way back from... the 80s? I don't even know how old they are. It's supposed to be a set of four, but I'm missing one. I always look for it when I'm in thrift shops and joke that my soulmate will be the person who owns it and can complete the collection for me. _________________ Rockin' Chainmail Jewelry!

Well, I'm terrible. Fashion aside... I drink from two very large coffee mugs on alternate days:
- Tall and slender Easter mug that we got from a friend.
- Squat and wide Clinique mug that originally came with makeup.
To be fair, I do have some other random keepsake mugs. At this point though, I'm going for more "Oh, I only had one cup of coffee" status, when I'm really cheating on the size factor. _________________ (Human sass. Robotic precision.)
