| How do I go about getting a car checked out for issues when I'm buying from a private seller? I feel weird asking to take it to a mechanic, and I don't really know a reliable mechanic anyway... Should I just depend on the records the owner has kept on the car? |

There are people who provide basic check-ups for used car sales. They'll meet you at a location and look at it right then. I ended up buying a used car that still had a warranty, but when I was looking there were several around here that ran about $150 or so. _________________ country cookin' makes you good lookin'

Thanks! I'll look in to that.
I have another one: I've been waking up lately with really puffy bags under my eyes. They calm down after an hour or so, but I have noticed my face, in general, has been puffier than usual. Could this be an allergy thing? The area I live in (the Ohio Valley) is well known for causing crazy allergy problems. Should I try allergy meds, better moisturizer...? |

| Is the Hunger Games (book) worth reading? I am kinda interested in it but I saw a preview and it basically looks like a white version of Battle Royale. Am I wrong? |

i decided to figure that out, lozenge, by reading them. now that i've looked at a little of the spoiler-laden hunger games thread, i can recommend this link which is basically a read-along of the first chapter - the blogger reads it and shares thoughts and speculations. i think it's a pretty good way to get a sense of the book and see if you want to go further, without putting the time into getting the book/reading the chapter.
... although maybe the blog post is as long as the chapter. _________________ xoxpuck

What do you call this character on your keyboard
#
pound
number
sharp
hash tag
And does context matter? Curious now, one British guy I know call this a sharp and someone else in my office calls it something else. |

I think context matters? Pound for phone stuff, hash for internets, etc.
At least in my brains. _________________ Etsy!

The British guy probably wouldn't call it 'pound' 'cos it would be confusing with £=pound. I call it 'hash'. _________________ kittens are cute, but a full-grown cat can be cuter

Sharp would be for music (and flat looks like a squashed letter b).
Hash tag on twitter, otherwise hash symbol if I was instructing someone to enter one. I would understand what was meant if someone said pound symbol, although I would think of that as a fancy lb, or £ only if said "Pounds sterling. And number if I was reading reading it out loud (e.g I'd read #3 as number 3), but I would consider it an Americanism (but I could be wrong in that assumption!).
My question: How many faces are there on Mt Rushmore?
Was just looking at awkwardfamilyphotos.com and there was a family portrait where it looked like there was another face off to the right. When we googled images there was another family image that also showed it. But none of the more "offical" looking pictures seemed to have it visible. |

Thanks for all the answers! I have used the # in a password for something at the office and have to tell the bosses, repeatedly, over the phone.
Mt Rushmore - Washington, Jefferson, T Rosevelet, and Lincoln
There's room for more (hopefully not Ron Ray-gun) |

Haha! I always call it "number sign". Like, if I was saying a password or whatever out loud, I'd say "okay, it's four, number sign, seven..."
That sounds SO dumb now that I'm thinking about it. |

i dont think it's SO dumb!!! i think most of the people i interact with on the regular would say number sign. (unless of course they were tweeters, then they'd say hash.)
i think a lot of canadians say number sign? or pound? those were the two i grew up with. _________________ THE MUNDANE IS TO BE CHERISHED |

Yep, I'm Canadian, and I call it a number sign on the keyboard, or a pound on the phone. I also learned it as a sharp in music notation. I don't know what anything is when it comes to Twitter... _________________ http://montgomeryfibrearts.wordpress.com/ |
