Any recommendations on hair detanglers? AJ has fine tight curls in the back with a weird fuzzy texture and it's getting really knotted up after baths. I would prefer a natural brand or a home remedy but I can't find anything online with decent reviews and I don't want to shell out $14 bucks for 4oz of no worky detangler.
Thanks!

Because they're fine, this may or may not work, but I would just rub in a little bit of your fave natural rinse-out hair conditioner and leave it in!

I've heard of a DIY detangler using watered down conditioner in a spray bottle.

I just did a quick search, specifically for DIY options. Looks like 3/1 conditioner/water is a good ratio.

Or maybe even try combing after baths, with a wide tooth comb, starting at the base of the neck with smallish horizontal sections. I'd actually say the same thing with using a detangler.

Yes, detangler! Good thinking, chupacabra! This way you can avoid any nasty hair incidents resulting in....baby mullet.

Lols. Littlespacebug bit her mom on the stomach during hair detangling time and was promptly brought in to get her hair cut into a mullet as punishment. My mom used to always use this as an example when I would complain about brushing my hair.

Anywho, the conditioner trick sounds awesome and I will give it a shot and report back. Wide tooth combs aren't working on this one particular area. The hair is so weird. It's been like this since birth. It's this one patch of really fuzzy/wooly feeling hair. The rest is smooth and not tangly!

(potentially silly question, it's been a long time since I've been around any babies to bathe) Do you use conditioner on her hair? I always use the wide-tooth comb on my own hair before rinsing out the conditioner, and then it doesn't seem to tangle later.

I have a patch of very fuzzy/frizzy/coarse/dry feeling hair at the nape of my neck and pretty curls everywhere else :) My hairdresser tells me it's just a different growth pattern at that particular spot and the hair isn't unhealthy (I've been concerned since it's so dry!), it's just the way that particular spot of hair is. I'm considering myself lucky since it's hidden under the rest of my hair! I'd imagine that this different growth pattern also explains A's hair, and hope that maybe her hair will cover this in adulthood too :) (Unless, you know, she wants to rock the 2 different textures look ;)

No, I don't. I've considered it but the rest of her hair is really still baby fine and I don't want it to get weighed down. But, we've come to the crossroads of baby dreadlocks or conditioner now :)

Well, it's kinda in the middle of the back of her head? It does curl up to match the rest of it but right now it's pretty tangled and is kinda sticking out straight! Haha, I need to bathe her tonight!

I was a little too old to get away with biting but I basically did this too. The resulting haircut wasn't quite a mullet but it was NOT pretty.

Viva detangler!

Do they not sell "No More Tears" detangler any more?

I had loooooong, thick hair as a little girl and we went through buckets of that stuff.

ETA: yes they do!

I prefer to stay away from Johnson & Johnson and other brands because they have some nasty ingredients in them.

Conditioner detangler didn't work well. Neither did straight conditioner and wide tooth comb. Little nesty hair baby!

E has that wooly messed up spot too, same space! The hair breaks off there, also....resulting in...baby mullet.
I've been attributing it to car seat/sheet abrasion.
We use the stuff Sleepyhouse mentioned of 5 yo S's hair when we go to the beach, and it helps a lot, as does combing before we rinse out her conditioner.

I used California Baby's detangler (and their bodywash/shampoo combo) on the Crumblette when she was a baby, and it worked a treat. It's spendy, but a little goes a long way. The Crumblette has always had a tremendous amount of curly hair, and it tries its best to snarl up whenever possible, so I've basically been detangling and combing it out her whole life.

Now she uses the same Aveda shampoo and conditioner that I use, and that works even better (but obvs that won't work on someone as little as Miss AJ).
