I know there are some tech-savvy folks on this board. Does anyone have any interest in working on a mobile app for this site? I realize it's a fairly comprehensive site, so maybe we could have just a glitter app. I also know this can be time intensive, and I realize a lot of us would have to commit to buying the app, which I personally would be very happy to pay for. And I don't mean a measly 99 cents per download either. If we could get many members to agree on a price beforehand with the developer and pay up front, maybe this could work.

Yesterday veganfairy and I were having lunch and discussing this (her idea actually) and we both agreed how useful it would be. Many of us are always on the go, some don't have reliable internet access at home, and others primarily rely on their phones for social networking sites.

What does the community think of this? Tsia? Is this even possible?

Very possible, yes.
Though it would actually be different apps between iPhone, Android, and whatever other mobile devices people have.

Erm, forgive me if I'm being dimwitted, but I just use the website on my phone browser at the moment. What would the difference be?

Yeah, maybe a mobile site would be better, to avoid the issue of different operating systems? I have no idea what the difference in time commitment is, though, and it's harder to charge for a site.

(Also, I kind of like having sites I visit a lot being sub-optimal on mobile, to discourage me from fiddling around on my phone all the time.)

I agree. Also, I'm not sure how easy it would be to get Apple to approve a Glitter app. And then to develop for the multiple platforms.

I like the idea of a mobile version of the site though, but I don't think it would earn any $ except through donations.

If the board was Tapatalk-enabled, you could just use that, instead of having to code from scratch.

It's available on a range of platforms. I have it downloaded but havent used it.

OMG, that would be amazing. I use G* on my phone all the time but it's kind of a pain because I have to zoom in and then I can't fit the post author on the screen at the same time.

This board is run on phpBB software. There are companies out there that offer app capabilities for recent versions of phpBB, but I don't know which version Glitter is running. (For example, this co: http://www.forumrunner.net/) It seems like that might be easier than someone writing an app from scratch just for G*, especially since it may be upgraded eventually.

ETA: This would require someone with access to the supernaturale server to install an add-on, in addition to the end-users buying/installing apps on their devices. I don't know if there are stand-alone readers that don't require server side intervention.

I would love someway to make it easier to read glitter on my phone. I hate having to zoom in to read things.

I've messaged her.

Tigrrrl, that sounds like a good possibility, too.

huh, interesting. that would be good to have glitter mobile-y. anyone who wants to help me develop it i welcome. i am not going to get to it in the near term. the phpbb we are running is fairly old but i don't see why it wouldn't work if they had developed a mobile version...

I just came here to post this! Thanks irish :)

I would love an app for Android and am willing to pay for it. My G* time has been cut way down due to being on the go constantly and having a locker too small for my lappy at work (I would seriously bring it to G* between massage clients if it would fit - ha!)
