I had my first meeting with my midwife yesterday and I am so happy to have found her! I met her through a chance craigslist connection (I was giving away some books) and instantly liked her. She seems amazing, and her confidence is really comforting. I'm doing "shadow care" with my insurance provider - basically they're doing my labs, and ultrasounds but I'm not using them for anything else (but I haven't told them that yet!).

In other news, I'm showing already at 12 weeks!! And the highest part of my abdomen right under my bra line is so firm!! I can tell my organs are being shifted around to make room for the babe, and it's starting to feel very very real.

Figwit- yay for having a great connection with your midwife!

casiep- Hope you see LGB waving at you like we did at my first ultrasound :)

It has become all too real that I am having a baby soon! Over the weekend we finally purchased the crib mattress, so the room looks a lot more complete. Even though she will be using a cradle/co-sleeping in the beginning the empty crib (which collected all the items that didn't have a proper place) made the room not done.

Yesterday I had first meetings with both our pediatrician and doula. Love them both! I can't believe how soon Ruby will be here!

casiep - the first ultrasound I got, I saw my little nubbin moving her legs (well, little stumpy blobs at that time) like she was running! It was amazing! We had kind of a jerkface do our 20 week ultrasound & she never even turned the screen so I could see! It drove me crazy! I just watched boysocky's face as he watched the screen & he'd describe what she was doing. I hope you get to see your blob!

YAY MOHAWK! We have very little done in preparation for the baby. I got some cloth diapers - but that's it.. even buying those felt a little crazy to me! Made it more real!

As for me - I've been feeling royally poopy :( Nothing baby related though, I have a pretty bad cold & cough & was up for most of the night coughing - which has left my throat feeling pretty shredded & without a voice today. I want to go to the Dr, but the clinic doesn't open until 1:30 on Wednesdays! I was always a 'just tough it out' kind of sick person before - but now that I'm pregnant I'm kind of freaked out, even though the internet tells me it's okay to get sick when you're pregnant.

Gah, movement is awesome!! I love feeling my little critter wriggling around. :)

That's all.

Oh, and Figwit, yay for a good appointment!

Whew, I had prenatal yoga tonight and I am unsure the instructor knows exactly what pregnant ladies limitations are. There were a lot of forwarding bending poses and ab strengthening poses. Plank pose? Not happening. I miss the old instructor that would have us do kegel exercises and explain how the different poses would help us in labor.

On Wednesday I have a growth ultrasound and I am sooo excited to see my bebe again!

ETA: Just to clarify, I modify any pose that gives me troubles. I just don't know if I will be going back next week...

I'm nearly 34 weeks now. Definitely getting to an awkward size. We haven't done much to prepare. We took a birth class at my yoga center. I've been feeling great but haven't been able to make it to the gym or yoga the past few weeks and I really miss it. My baby shower is this weekend, so hopefully we will start to get things ready. We plan to cloth diaper and also might be moving in August, so I don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves with setting everything up. I am a bit panicked over not having enough room for baby stuff. I feel like I have so much junk in every corner!

I also got as far as buying my book on natural childbirth, but haven't even cracked the cover yet. I also have plans to sew and knit so much! I have lots of fabric cut out and ready to go, but just no time to work on it. My work offers nothing for maternity leave, just what is required by state and federal law, so I can't take any paid time off to prepare.

I've hit 30 weeks now!

I feel mostly good - except for the new & unwelcome sensation of someone having used my lady parts as a punching bag. Seriously. Every time I lift my left leg (every step I take, every move I make) I have pain in my crotch. It doesn't hurt to the touch though - is this the 'Round Ligament Pain' I keep hearing about?

ouchie-wa-wa!

It could be relaxin? If it feels more like a joint pain, it may be normal pelvic joint pain or ligament loosening as your body prepares for the birth. I had round ligament pain, which to me felt like bad cramps in and around my uterus, in the first trimester, although I think you can have it throughout pregnancy.

(Edited to fix anatomical stuff...I think.)

Kneesocky, I had something that started off like that (and I don't want to cause alarm!) but then it got super owie like holy fuck I cant move without pain owie. It was http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symphysis_pubis_dysfunction and it sucked big time.

It stopped instantly after having my daughter, so at least there's that. Hang in there!

Edit to add: In case you were wondering after reading that wiki, I had a vaginal birth with an epidural, and no further issues.

This is what I was going to say. I haven't gotten the ZOMG OW pain yet, but I kind of have a dull ache in my pubic bone at night these days. It does feel like it's been punched!

And I seem to have entered the land of never being able to find a comfy sleeping position. Something always starts hurting. But on the plus side, I'm 20w today! Halfway through! And last night I got the baby to play "tag" with me. I'd poke, baby would kick back. So cute.

chupacabra that's very much what it feels like! Turning over in bed is especially painful!

It hasn't become unbearable - so I guess I'll just push through. I mentioned it at my Dr appointment on Friday & they didn't seem too bothered by it.
I'm glad to hear that you were able to have a vaginal birth though - gives me hope that if that's what this is, I'll be able to go that route as well, since that's what I want.[/b]

Turning over in bed was THE WORST! My doctor wasn't concerned with it either, really.

When I got my epidural I had so much relief. Not from contractions, but this pain. I was rolling over in bed effortlessly after the epi and it was heaven to be able to do that. But really yeah, after baby girl was out in the world I never ever had the pain again.

I am starting to feel this too! It feels like I have ridden a horse bare back for a few days. Yeow!

We had our 32 week appointment last week and everything is looking ideal! We had a growth ultrasound and baby girl is measuring in the 55th percentile at 4 pounds 11 ounces. She is right on track for a St. Patty's day birthday! So excited!

Tell me to drink 32 oz of water an hour before my ultrasound and then start it 30 minutes late? Not cool. Almost peed my pants.
