Just finished talking with my carrier. My car insurance company has increased rates by $110. Though I have a clean driving record, no claims so far, they say rates have gone up. Have the general auto insurance rates really gone up? What should insurance for a 2008 Honda
Civic typically cost? |

all I can tell you is that I have a clean driving record, drive a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24, and my insurance is $150 a month with NO collision and NO comprehensive - too effin' expensive and not worth it given the insurance costs about the same as the car on an annual basis as it is.
And that is the price with a 20% discount for having home insurance with the same company, and another 5% discount for having a 2 cars in 1 household insured with the same company.
It's disgusting.

My car is insured for the minimum and has been totaled twice by people rear ending me. So my insurance is pretty low. My car is in a policy with 3 or 4 other cars.
My brother's car is from 95 and has not been totaled and his car is much more to insure though, and he is in the same policy as my car. _________________ Midnightsky Fibers- great knitting patterns!

i think rates have a lot to do with age, possibly. i have a brand new (2010) nissan sentra and my insurance is $350/6 months. no accidents or moving violations (or even a ticket) and im 30. we also have miultiple vehicles insured with them (two cars, a jeep, one classic car, three vintage and one modern scooter, and 2 motorcycles) and our house. _________________ candy to carrots |

| What state you are in also makes a HUGE difference. |

No kidding! I'm in Michigan, which has notoriously high rates. My partner and I pay $65/month for basic PLPD insurance on our 2002 Kia Rio. We drive about 350 miles a month (this is reported to the insurance company when they ask about usage, so I think it's relevant). We are both over 25, with no accidents/points. I have done quite a bit of shopping around, and this is pretty much the lowest rate I could find. _________________ "It came to betoken the nation's biking and adulation of automobiles!" |

| Mine haven’t. Thank God! Shop around and if someone quotes you lower rates, ask your present company to better them. They usually do it! Who are you insured with? I have my home and car insurance with The Hartford. |

| Hmm, my car insurance rates actually went DOWN a little last year (and are remaining about the same this year). I agree that insurance costs vary a lot by state. When I moved to CA from NC, mine took a big jump. I have a pretty basic policy right now on a 98 Ford Taurus and it costs me about $550/yr (I get a bit of a discount for having my home insurance through the same company). |
