We got the biggest napa cabbage I've ever seen. I have no idea what I am going to do with it. _________________ I'm a sass-quatch. |

I feel like we've finally gotten over the "omg no more lettuce and cucumbers and zucchini!" hump this week. I got one lettuce, one cucumber, and was able to trade some of my zucchini for eggplant. My crisper was looking a bit overwhelmed with zucchini and cucumbers for the past couple of weeks. I also got cherry tomatoes, kholrabi, carrots, red onions, basil, green beans and broccoli this week too. _________________ i live at the foot of a mountain |

So how are everyone's CSAs doing? Lately we've been getting tons of little canteloups (like as big as a softball, maybe smaller), spanish onions, leeks, cherry tomatoes, brocolli, peppers (including tiny hot ones!) and all kinds of other neat stuff too. _________________ i live at the foot of a mountain |

Yesterday we got potatoes, tomatoes, radicchio, fennel, red onions with leaves, carrots and a giant green leaf lettuce.
Last week we got (among other things) a kit to make salsa verde -- all of the ingredients were tied together with a recipe. We jiggered with it a bit -- added more spice and more garlic than they called for -- but it was delicious!
I'm a little jealous about melons -- so good! But hopefully we'll start getting pumpkin soon, and I can focus on soup and spice muffins. _________________ I'm a sass-quatch. |

We've been getting those melons too.
Yesterday I got a ruffly lettuce, radishes, little hot peppers, baby greens, tomatoes, corn, and a kohlrabi.
The fruit share had apples, peaches, and plums. _________________ Etsy!

| Ours is almost over for the summer, but, we start a Community Supported Fishshare today! I'm so excited about this -- it's one of the few in the US, and means we will have fresh, local fish every week. |

I think my CSA has been trying to make up for the poor beginning of our season by killing us with veggies :D
(You may remember that they were having a "failing" season and cut back our pickups to every other week, despite the fact that they continued to sell food at the farmer's market -- not making me very happy with them).
Last week I consumed:
4 eggplants
3 zucchinis
a bag of basil
1 cabbage
6 carrots
2 heads of cauliflower
many tomatoes from our garden
many baby choy plants
2 onions
2 purple bell peppers
1 yellow squash
So far this week I have consumed:
2 bunches of kale
many baby choy plants
4 cucumbers
many tomatoes from our garden
more cauliflower
2 carrots
In my fridge I have:
10ish zucchinis
10ish cucumbers
2 bunches of chard
lots of baby bok choys
~8 carrots
10ish beets
1 kohlrabi
1 bag arugula
onions
green, purple, and yellow beans
1 hungarian pepper
2 purple bell peppers
1 cabbage
4 eggplants
I can't keep up!!!! Death by CSA!
(I am probably going to do some freezing of things this weekend). _________________ <3

This week will be our last CSA pickup for the season! On one hand I'll miss it, on the other hand I'm sort of looking forward to not always having a fridge FULL of veggies! We moved and bought a new fridge in August, and already in October I had to do a super deep clean because it was absolutely disgusting. Farm veggies track in lots of dirt! We could do a winter share, but decided to take a bit of a break and start strong in the spring.
Our shares lately have had lots of fall veggies, like squash, onions, beets, turnips, brussle sprouts and garlic, and some more surprising ones for this time of the year like lettuce and green peppers.
We really noticed the difference between CSA and supermarket veggies. We're going to try to shop at the farmer's market as much as possible (it goes on in a much smaller form even in the winter here) between now and when the share starts up in June again. Already we go every couple of weeks to pick up eggs, so it shouldn't be a big deal.
One of the things I like about the CSA is that it forces me to try new things on a constant basis. I never even knew what kholrabi was before I found it in my box one week. Now I love it! Either raw or stir fried with other veggies. Black radishes, eh (maybe in a slaw they'd be delicious . . . ). Jerusalem artichokes, so-so (make good soup filler). Orange cherry tomatoes? Yum yum!
So what about everyone else? Is your share finishing up? Any new veggies? _________________ i live at the foot of a mountain |
