So, I moved to New York about a month ago. I was really worried about being able to fit all my crap into a tiny apartment. (I have a lot of sewing and art supplies. And clothes and art.) I had to come up with some creative (read: cheap) ways to store things and thought I would share what I came up with.
As you can see, I don't have a closet. I kind of like how all of my belongings become part of the decor of the room. I have my paintbrushes and knitting needles in glass jars, balls of yarn in a basket on the shelf.

I didn't have any floor space left for a bookshelf, so I pulled some dresser drawers out of the trash and hung them on my walls for shelves. The molding above my door also works to hang up high-heeled shoes. In one of the drawer-shelves in the photo above, I hung some small framed photos to avoid putting so many nails in the wall. It also give me a place to put little knick-knacky things along with my photos.

My bike hangs above my sewing table.

And lucky for me, my parents sell kitchen cabinets. My dad made this bed for me using extra pieces they had in the warehouse. It's been extremely useful! Thanks, Dad!

Your room looks really funky and sweet!
I have also been having trouble with a tiny space, but unfortunately my walls are concrete, and I can't put nails into them.
It looks great! _________________ Post reviewed by the Ministry of Truth |

tee hee, yes I think that Nimbus likes our new room (he's the curious rabbit) but he can't hop up onto my bed anymore because it's too tall now.
spacebug, I'm in Ridgewood. I go to Astoria once a week for rollerderby practice. I like the little natural grocery store there at 30th & 30th. Do you like the neighborhood? |

| well, the idea wasn't completely my own. i had seen pictures of a bookshelf that someone had made by stacking dresser drawers and screwing them together. i just hung the drawers on my wall to save floor space. |

I'm going to post another thread about a NYC Glitter Party to see if there's any other interest. I can help plan it, but do not live in a great place to host. I also haven't been around long enough to know of any public places that would be appropriate either. Help!
