I've made it a habit of taking a few books at a time to my library, which has a paperback book swap. Now, if I can't get into a book it goes into a pile to go there. I've also been waay less addicted to the yard saling. I've only gone a handful of times so far and I don't think I'll go this weekend unless my mom wants to...so I do go if someone else wants to, but I don't actively seek to go and I don't pick up as much stuff. _________________ keep it simple |

| I'm moving studios within my building so I took the opportunity to go through and get rid of some craft and office supplies and dropped them off at the thrift store. |

I've been pretty productive today, and I've purged a few more things without even trying. I also prettied up some cloth diapers for Scarlet because I've gotten addicted to cding and this way I don't buy anything new! I used some old tea cups to plant some herbs in, and I repainted the last drawer on a reburished dresser I'm doing for the Scarleta. So I've been big on reusing things instead of buying, and getting by with as little as possible. I've noticed that when I'm under stress, purging really helps, and that when I continue to purge I lose that urge to acquire. _________________ keep it simple |

I've found this to be true as well! I realized that many of the things I am currently purging are things that were just plain bad acquisitions. _________________ "Fun is where you find it" - jackierocket |

I just got rid of a box, a playmat and a bouncy chair that wasn't being used by the little miss. I have even more stuff to go the thrift store, and I'll be loading it up in the car directly. _________________ keep it simple |

Took FIVE garbage bags full of junk to Goodwill on sunday. While the bags were sitting in hubster's office for 2 weeks, I did end up taking a couple things back out of the bags, but literally only two things, a t-shirt and a serving tray we got as a wedding gift.
So I'm still counting that as a big WIN.
And bonus, my in-laws were visiting, so I cleaned my apartment like it has not been cleaned in a long time, and it feels SO GOOD.
Oh! and I sent all my plastic containers (from yogurt, etc, #5 and #6 that we can't recycle) with them in their car, since they can recycle them in their town. I've started making my own yogurt so I don't have to deal with anymore of those containers! only milk jugs, which I can recycle myself. _________________ Are you familiar with the old robot phrase "DOES NOT COMPUTE"? |

We've had this (very heavy, clunky) wooden table in our attic for two years now. It worked in our old place, but not here. I kept holding onto it thinking someone would want to take it, but several people have looked at it over this time and nobody has.
Our neighbor called me last night to say that she's having Goodwill come pick up some old furniture this afternoon, so we added the table to the pile! It was so easy I almost feel like we cheated.
We also got rid of three bags of clothes. One bag is full of things I may be able to sell at the secondhand shop downtown. They actually pay upfront for clothes, instead of having you wait until (or if) they sell. Whatever they don't want will be on its way to Goodwill.
I love getting rid of things!
The kitchen is next. The lower cabinets are almost full, and we hardly ever have a reason to use any of that stuff. I'm thinking I can find lots to donate. _________________ "It came to betoken the nation's biking and adulation of automobiles!" |

I just gave my Diana+ camera (and a bunch of film) to this photographer friend of mine who has a huge interest in toy cameras.
I know I posted here about how much excitement I had about using that camera... but then it turns out that there is nowhere locally that will process the film. My budget does not allow for a hobby that involves sending film in the mail to be processed. Whoa.
Anyway, I handed it over (for free!) as a surprise today and her face lit up. I am hoping that she will make great photos with it and send me a print or two. I would much rather have art in my home than guilt about cool things I don't use.
I am not a photographer, and as of today, I am okay with that. _________________ "My power doesn't come from other people's lust for my awesome vagina, thanks." - Enzyme

i just did a ton of organizing and rearranging and it feels GOOD. I started out in dd's room. I was painting a dresser for her, but the drawers are sticking and it's just not working out. So now I'm turning it into an organizing shelf with baskets and boxes, which meant that I had to track down said appropriate boxes and baskets. Or at least the ones that will have to work for the time being because I have no money for this project. Anyway, that turned into reorganizing some stuff in my living room and bathroom, and somehow putting some chairs and an end table on my front porch. Oh, and organizing my craft supplies....
Hmmm. Now all I have is to paint this dresser/shelf and the baskets/boxes I picked up to go with it. I'll add more when I have the funds, and I think it will be great now for clothes and such and later for all those little toys they acquire (right now since she's a baby most of her stuff is pretty big and in her toy box). I took her table, a smaller shelf and hamper out of there and already it looks so much bigger!
I've been thinking of moving when my lease comes up, but now that I've done all this work I wonder if I want to. The place seems so much nicer and larger now! I'm only leaving if I find a great deal elsewhere. _________________ keep it simple |

Miss Maggie helped me go through my beads this morning. And by "go through" I mean "dump". HOWEVER, having them all dumped out like that really is the best way to decide which ones are worth picking out of the carpet and which are vaccuum cleaner victims....
I cleaned out the linen closet and donated a set of sheets, a pile of hand towels that are all faded and ick (I have pretty ones, why was I keeping those?) I also donated a number of holiday "fingertip towels" (what a waste) and got rid of some glycerine soaps that had gone all gunky and sticky. My linen closet looks so clean now!
My new goal in the craft room is to pare down enough that I can get rid of the falling-apart dresser in there and just have stuff in the closet. Everyone out there cross your fingers now, I'll need it :-)
And in all the decrapping I've realized that one of my long-held desires is actually close to attainable. I've always wanted a chic, modern look but thought I had to stick with more traditional stuff. I'm realizing how small changes like curtains or cabinet knobs or light fixtures can really change the "flavor" of a room. I can't believe that 5 years ago I spent over $800 on ONE window's worth of drapes and stuff and it looks so dowdy and old. I'm selling it and using the money to buy something fresh and modern from Ikea. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to sell the old stuff for the price of the new stuff and come out even! _________________ "Fun is where you find it" - jackierocket |
