|

Hi. I have a second-hand rug from Pier 1 in my living room. If I had to guess, I'd say that it was hemp with a rubber backing. I'm not sure though.
Anyway, this morning, I watched as the broom that was leaning against the wall fell down and knocked my green smoothie (which was in a closed container) off the table, which burst open and splattered all over my rug. It honestly happened in slow motion. Crazy.
The smoothie had water, a plum, a banana, mango, and spinach in it. I was able to sop up the bulk of the green stuff, and when that was gone, I sprayed a vinegar/water solution and scrubbed with a brush. Now, what's left on my rug is mostly a red stain, bits of plum skin, and a little tint of green.
I have no good pics of the rug, no less the stain. Here is a pic where you can sorta see the rug. Look down, on the floor:

Any suggestions? I think I may have to get rid of it. |

| biokleen makes a great product called Ba-Out, super for cleaning up food and other organic stains out. .. but if the product is more like a sisal rug then I would think about going to a vacuum cleaner repair place or some such and seeing if they have something more suited to that type of rug. |

Oooh, it's a lot of help knowing that it's called "sisal." Never even heard of it before this.
I went home on my lunch break, and it's looking like it might not be as bad as I thought it was going to be. It's drying up and looking okay.
I'll update again later. |

| I've had amazing success with Folex on carpet and upholstery stains. I don't know if it'd work for your rug. |

Update: It didn't dry as bad as I thought it would, but it's totally noticable and yucky looking.
I found the tag on the bottom of it, and it's 100% jute. I don't know if it was the water/vinegar or the scrubbing or the actual food that did it, but the stain spot is lighter and darker (um, completely discolored) at the same time. It's ugly. I hate it. I'm mad. |
