I just made a smoothie with frozen mango and plain yogurt sweetened with a bit of reduced sugar strawberry jam. It was quite yummy. I think I might go get more mango while it is on sale. I'd never thought to use jam in smoothies before. I think it is nice because it adds flavor as well as sweet. _________________ Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it.

Sadly, the mangoes were on sale because the store decided to stop carrying them. I'm a bit sad your mango and skim milk smoothie had become one of my favorites.
Tomorrow I am going to try frozen grapes in a smoothie. I wonder if it will work. _________________ Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it.

I have NEVER made a smoothie before. Can I just use a blender and/or a tiny food processer? I have frozen cherries and watermelon and was thinking about adding raspberry yogurt... Would I need to add ice (heh-or ice cream)? This could really rock my summer. _________________ "Does that mean I have a superhero complex? Well, maybe. We have a big thing of protein powder on top of the fridge. Last night I pulled out all the good smoothie stuff and put it in the blender- frozen chunks of peaches, pineapple, and mango, and soy milk. I went to scoop in a scoop of powder... and discovered it was chocolate flavored.
Soooo, in lieu of a smoothie I added more fruit, blended, and it was like sorbet. |

| JackiRocket, I'm in the same boat. I haven't ever made a smoothie before, but I'm so excited to make some of these! They sound so good. |

I don't know if I've ever posted on the food board before. But I was intending to look for smoothie recipes and found this thread first. Lately I've been making smoothies with the following:
Frozen mango chunks (Trader Joes)
Milk (soy or dairy)
Frozen limeade concentrate (a spoonful or so)
Fresh chopped ginger (about a half inch)
Lemon yogurt (though I've made it without it and it was quite good, too)
The above is also quite good with frozen raspberries instead of the mango and no ginger. I never measure anything; I just adjust amounts until I've got the thickness I want.
I'm looking forward to trying some of the suggested recipes! _________________ http://twitter.com/sharkscanbiteme

I've been adding carrots to every smoothie. I don't even taste them. A little spinach, I know we said that already...
I am really curious about the protein powder. Do you taste it? What's it made of? Do you get it at GNC or the health food store? I have been trying to get my nutrients from whole foods, but it's hard to get protein into a smoothie without adding too much fat. (Peanut butter is so good though!) _________________

I just made a massive and fine, but not amazing smoothie from oat milk and frozen summer berries. I had to add some normal semi-skimmed cow's milk too, 'cos there wasn't enough liquid. I'll get some yoghurt to add to the remaining mixture, i think it would improve things a lot. _________________ kittens are cute, but a full-grown cat can be cuter

my favorite smoothie:
kiwi (as much as it takes to equal a banana. two, maybe?)
a medium can (eight oz?) of mandarin oranges, drained
ice
some juice (whatever you've got)
a plop of vanilla frozen yogurt (though, in a pinch, regular yogurt will do)
blend. drink. a local cafe had something like this. they did theirs with apple juice. it was called the starshine and i almost went broke drinking it. then they went out of business and i had to figure it out myself. _________________ but i'm still here, and small. so small.

i can't believe i've never tried almond milk before. life changing.
this is more of a dessert-y shake than a smoothie, i suppose. and this could serve four, or two really tall, full glasses for two. my hub and i chose the latter and did not regret it.
chocolate almond milk (like a 3rd of the blender pitcher)
vanilla almond milk (maybe 1/2 cup)
4 frozen bananas
two big spoonfuls of natural peanut butter
the most amazing smoothie/shake i've ever had.
vegan and by far the creamiest most delicious thing i've ever had to drink.
i'm in heaven.

my mom bought me a magic bullet!! YAY!!!
so in my promise to eat breakfast properly, eat more protein and be organized, i've been making smoothies every day for the last week.
they are miracles, i'm surprisingly un-hungry until lunch :D
1 ripe banana, broken up into pieces
1 "pod" (2in X 3 in X 1 in) of coconut dessert tofu
3 small teaspoons of instant coffee
enough chocolate soy milk (i use silk, its delicious) to fill the blender
bleeeeend.
its like a thick shake. i love the coffee, chocolate all those tastes together!
probably i'd use vanilla dessert tofu instead, but yeah...DELICIOUS.

Re: Protein powder. I'm a huge fan. It turns the smoothie from a healthy snack to something that will keep me full for HOURS!
I'm using this stuff from Target
YUM!
I toss in a cup or so of frozen berries, a scoop of powder, an big handful of spinach, and soy milk 1/2 cover. Bend.
I can have this for breakfast and not get any grumbling until lunch. Brilliant. _________________ You may have to sacrifice a bit of modesty in the name of badassery! -Knittykat |

Bump!
I have lost some weight recently and I totally credit the smoothie!
My newest favorite thing is fresh ginger....mmmm.....cannot believe I wasn't doing this all along. I started b/c Stella got sick and ginger's an immunity booster...but MAN, does it ever make the smoothie yummier! I am actually excited to drink it, rather than just patting myself on the back for getting fruits and veggies in.
A new fave:
1/4 cup or less of ff vanilla yogurt
peeled ginger to taste
raspberries
strawberries
shredded / baby carrots
optional:
splash of orange juice
frozen pineapple chunks
banana
I like a decent amount of ginger, then my tongue stays warm for a minute after I finish!
I don't want to make myself sick of the ginger- can y'all think of anything else exciting like that to jazz things up? _________________
