At glittercon, nicegirl was awesome enough to have us all over and gave us a super easy skirt-making tutorial. I took pictures and wrote it all up on my site:

The "Oh wow that was totally easy!" Skirt-Making Tutorial

And here's the one I made last night:

Thank you nicegirl!

Thanks for posting the tutorial. I'm wanting to learn how to sew properly on a machine and this looks like a great first/practice project.

I have nothing in between work and beach clothes - so this is perfect! And I just moved the sewing machine and the fabric stash to the new house - so maybe I can whip one of these out this weekend. Except it will look pretty crappy as I don't have good skillz yet. YET!

Thanks so much ladies! I made myself a skirt tonight!

I've been bemoaning the lack of denim skirts in stores lately--I thought that was a basic! I decided to take matters into my own hands--I actually remade my old baby sling into a sweet skirt.

I'll wear it tomorrow and post a pic!

The only problem I had was the 3/8" elastic didn't pull in the top of the skirt much at all--it was like it was not strong enough. Or maybe I didn't cut it short enough. I trimmed off the top (thankfully I left an extra inch) and redid the elastic step with 3/4" elastic that I cut shorter and it was perfect.
