New year, new apartment, new RAK!

Colors: PURPLE! And most other jewel tones, black and silver. I'm not crazy about pastels, neons, or "fall-like" colors

Foods: Chocolate and coffee and almost anything chocolate or coffee flavored. If you're a Northeasterner, I would love some maple sugar candy (can't find it down south)

Jewelry: I love earrings, necklaces, barrettes, and stretchy headbands. I prefer silver-tone and "craft-fair" styles to department store type of things. I especially like things made with unusual materials. I don't really wear bracelets

Apparel: I'm 5'0 so if you have any really small clothes--like things that shrunk in the dryer, they'll probably fit me. I have to shop the kids section at Target : (

Arts: I love to play around with all kinds of materials so any art supplies (pens, pastels, paints, collage-stuff etc) will be much appreciated. Or send me clippings (or even digital files) of cool-looking illustrations or page-layouts

And crafts: I crochet and play around with sewing a little. I've also made a few books. I'm trying to do both more this year and would appreciate any supplies you might have. I'll even take those novelty yarns no one likes because my cats like them

Graphic Design: I'm a graphic designer. I'm VERY interested in package design so if you have a really cool package, I would LOVE it if you sent me the empty box. Paper folding techniques like pop-up books or origami how-tos/samples would get a lot of use. Any kind of neat graphic design samples would be great

Cats: I have three cats who all love catnip and toys. I also like things with cats on them as long as they're not too cutesy. Think Laurel Burch instead of Hello Kitty

Gardening: I would love seed packets for various herbs or pretty flowers like morning glories

Bath and Body: I'm very sensitive to a lot of chemicals, but if you make homemade soap, I would love to try it.

Candles: Love them! Not too picky about scent, although I don't care for patchouli. I have a lot of different kinds of candle holders (although I could always use more) so any shape/size is cool. Incense is cool too.

Recipes: I like to cook. I'm a little picky: hate mushrooms, seafood, tofu but would love most any recipe not including these ingredients. I'm particularly interested in warm-weather cuisine: Asian, African, Latin-American. If it's spicy, it's even better! Baking/dessert recipes would be great too.

Music: I'm mostly a metalhead; Fear Factory is my favorite band. I also listen to classical (like Rachmaninoff) and old-school jazz (like Count Basie).

Random: Practically anything handmade and/or useful would much appreciated!

I sat out most of last year on RAk so I want to start up again

I love to get mail, and it doesn't have to be big or expensive or OMG! Even just a nice note on a pretty card is wonderful.

I love love love paper, and scraps of paper and embellishments and materials that can be used with paper. ephemera, letterpress printing, coffee (not flavored, just straight roasts), browns and muted blues and natural earthy tones, vintage sewing stuff.

french-y things: i can watch marie-antoinette (coppola's version) over and over...love the music and the aesthetic.

love mod garage rock (the who, the kinks, etc. ) and indie girl rock that's melodic and pretty (go sailor and smoosh and the like) and dancey electro.

LOVE NFL FOOTBALL.

jewelry: I don't wear bracelets unless they are fitted. bangles are not good since I work at a desk and type most of the day. I wear pierced earrings (one in each ear) and necklaces. I would like to start wearing more rings as I have none. I wear and 8 or 9.

tiny little treasure things that are beautiful and amazing and can be held in my special box for tiny little treasures.

small tins or boxes with interesting designs.

I don't really knit anymore, so those things would not be put to use with me.

I do, however, like to embroider, and am in need of things on which to embroider--tea towels, kids shirts (3T), tote bags, etc.

I want to start doing crafts that don't take a long time to do, don't spread out over a large amount of space, don't require a lot of expensive materials to continue.

I'm going to start a small vegetable patch this year so anything you can think of that would help me would be awesome and so appreciated. I live in zone 7B.

I'm very much into health and fitness and whole foods and living well right now. I would love not just recipes but resources on these things.

some of my favorite artists include stella im hultberg, jen corace, audrey kawasaki, alphonse mucha.

I get a lot of inspiration and gut-wrenching eye candy from design*sponge.

I've got much more than that, i am sure, but I don't wanna get too grabby.

ahh, rak.

about me:

i am 23, almost 24. i live on a glacier called iowa with my boy and our 19 birds. we are crazy. i like to get mail, like cards and postcards and tack them up on my refrigerator. i knit and crochet. i used to take lots of photographs, paint, and write poetry. i'm trying to start doing those things again.

i would like:

-knitting needles and crochet hooks! i don't have many of either, and i'm always pulling a project off the needles to use them for something else.
-nice lace or fingering weight yarn. i want to start knitting shawls and fancy scarves, but am having a hard time finding nice yarn.
-a unique pendant or ring. i wear a 7 or 8 in rings. they can't be costume jewelry, or my finger will turn green and start to itch. pendants, strangely, can be costume. go figure.
-nice little notebooks. i am a compulsive list maker. i will make lists on everything, and lose them, because they are not bound together. notebooks are good.
-U-shaped headbands. i wear headbands at least 75% of the time i do my hair. i can't wear the ones that are closed (the stretchy kind) because they ping off my head.
-i really like knick-knacks. i like global stuff and i like kitschy, vintagey stuff. i have lots of shelves in my house and i like to hide little statues and things amongst the books.
-i would like it if my house looked like an ikea catalog.
-if you ever see a old pipe (like a smoking pipe) somewhere, my boy would flip. he has quite the extensive pipe collection.

my wists are at http://www.wists.com/iscoolster
i don't know that there's anything good in there, but i guess it shows patterns and colors i like.

i can't wait to start sending things out.

It's my first RAK, please be gentle.

About me:
I'm 24 and my birthday is October 12th. I perform theatre and especially improv. I live in Chicago, it makes sense here. (Uptown neighborhood, for those familiar with the area). I'm way into improving myself- holistic health, meditation, all that stuff- but I'm also very very lazy a lot of the time. I built a loft for my bed recently. I moved recently. I like dudes with glasses and abnormally thin torsos, if you have any extras laying around send 'em my way.

Things I'd Love to Receive:
* wall art.
* dvds, burned or otherwise.
*I especially love watching old tv or tv from other places than where I live. I like commercials and news programs the best, but any show will have commercial breaks that I'll enjoy. Unfortunately I do not have a vcr anymore. :-(
* MIX CDS.
* Anything you have loved or that has changed your life- books, quotes, cards, pictures, anything.
* screw-back and (to a lesser extent) clip-on earrings from the past. My ears aren't pierced but I wear earrings constantly.
* Made stuff. If you made it, I'll probably like it. I especially love visual art- prints, paintings, etc.
* Any thing that can make me learn more french. I know so little french.
* Does it smell like vanilla-jasmine? Yeah, I like it.
* Is it science-y? A sci-fi book, or maybe an old series on dvd (I've never seen Battlestar Galactica and have been told I'd like it) or anything with like, a DNA pattern or atoms or dinosaurs on it. I just love science. Science = Sexy.
* I like cowboys, and explosions. If it has either of those things I will love it.
* things on which to embroider and cross-stitch--tea towels, coffee mugs, hats, tote bags, etc.

About my apartment:

Kitchen colors: black and white.
Living room: off white and teal and brown
Bedroom: orange and pale blue
Bathroom: It's going to become teal and white, but right now it's white.

About my crafting:
I am way into: reparative sewing, paper crafts, cooking, baking, embroidery and cross-stitch
I dabble in: I've tried everything except knitting, and I have way too many friends who want to make me scarves each christmas so I probably won't ever try it.
I want to try: whatever will make me cooler.

Food:
I like eating but I am moderately allergic to peanuts. I just can't eat the actual nuts, I'm ok eating things that have like, touched peanuts.

I wanna RAK! (RAK!)

I just turned 25 on January 14. I live in northeast Ohio and work in IT.

I would love to get a letter from you, a mix CD of your favorite music, or anything you’ve made! I love getting unexpected stuff in the mail.

I like:

- Knitting and crocheting. Yarn that’s mostly natural fiber.
- Sewing and embroidery, though I need some practice.
- Cool stationery and notecards.
- Jewel tones, chocolate brown, dark gray, black, and apple green
- Silver toned jewelry, earrings (pierced, anything but super long dangly ones) and bracelets (I have small wrists though).
- Puzzles – sudoku, word jumbles, word searches, Rubik's type stuff.
- Video games, especially anything Legend of Zelda.
- Movies – pretty much anything except romantic comedies and westerns.
- Books. I haven’t been reading much lately but want to start again.
- Tea, pretty much any kind, although flavored black teas are my favorite.
- Cooking and baking (I’d love recipes!)
- Turtles and ferrets.
- Apples.
- Scents: vanilla, fresh apple, and basil.

Please no:
- Bath and body stuff or makeup. I have too much already.
- Candles/incense/oils.
- Coconut scented or flavored things.
- Tchochkes or other things that are purely decorative and collect dust.
- Pink, yellow, or bright orange things.

One of my items for my 101/1001 list is to send out more random mail, so I think it’s time I started to RAK!

I’m 25 (my birthday’s August 5). I’m a speech therapist at an elementary school and I’m a geeky linguistics and foreign language-y person (primarily Italian and Spanish). I love getting random letters about nothing in particular. And of course, handmade things of any variety- a friend of mine knitted something for me recently and I was SO EXCITED because no one’s ever knit for me before!

craft-related: knitting paraphernalia (I have all the needles I could ever need, but I love natural fibers and interesting/vintage knitting patterns); buttons; unusual beads that could be used as a centerpiece in some kind of necklace. I try to sew and embroider now and again, but I’m very much a beginner in those areas.

other stuff: I love stars, wombats, quirky artwork, dachshunds, octopus/squid, and silver/ chunky beaded jewelry. I generally wear a small/medium shirt size, and I’m always on the lookout for cutesy hair clips and girly accessories in general. My apt. has huge walls and high ceilings, and as a result, the walls have been bare for 6 months now, so I’d love anything interesting that I could decorate with. I like small prints (things like polka dots, swirly patterns, or stylized flowers, not so much with actual floral prints though) and black and white photos.

music: I’ve been listening to a lot of Feist, Margot and the Nuclear So and Sos, Muse, and Regina Spektor lately, if that tells you anything. I also really like jazz and blues, but I don’t have any of my own to speak of, so that’d be appreciated. I also love music that is not in English, regardless of whether or not I know what they’re saying. Ha.

colors: red, orange, grey, green, and chocolate brown
scents: vanilla, apple, cinnamon/spicy scents
tastes: I have an embarrassingly horrible sweet tooth. I also looooove chai. Recipes for spicy foods or baked goods would awesome.

also: anything that will help me complete items on my 101/1001 list!

dislikes: I don’t like pastel/neon colors, purple, cats, or kitschy things (for the most part- if you think something is amazingly cool, chances are I will too because Glitterati have the best taste). I don’t need bath stuff, candles (well, mostly they’d melt on the way to me), or knickknacks.

I guess maybe it's time I participated in a RAK. I got one from jackierocket last year, even though I didn't sign up! I'm still using the cute spider glasses she sent me.

So, on to stuff about me. I'm 52 (creak!), my birthday's November 27 though I don't usually celebrate it anymore, I'm divorced, I live in an apartment in Phoenix with my cat and my glorious, gorgeous spiders. I'm zaftig but rapidly losing weight, and I have very short, dark red hair, pale skin and dark blue eyes.

Things I like:
Any thing with spiders on it.
Dinosaur stuff--I'm nuts about dinosaurs.
Beads and buttons and pins.
Sewing-related stuff.
Counted cross-stitch patterns.
Chocolate.
Letters, post-cards from different parts of the country.
Knitted or crocheted stuff, because I don't do either. Nobody could be bothered to teach the lefty. It doesn't have to be large or complicated. I love knitted dishcloths!
And if you have any pics or stuff from your State Legislatures, I'm definitely interested. I am a Legislative staffer.

Things I don't really care for:
Rock music. Sorry, no criticism meant--I have just been a classical and opera gal my entire adult life.
Stuff I have to dust.
Candles or bath stuff. I have too many now.

My plan is to RAK once a week! (HONEST!) First, I must catch up with the lovelies that have sent me wonderful stuff in the mail..

anyhow...

My name is Nicole. I'm 31 (32 March 27th). I live in an apartment with my boy.

I like:

Music - mixed CDs are good! I used to be such a music snob but I realized the other day that I basically have no idea what's going on in the music world these days. Mostly I like dirty stoner rock, punk, hardcore, cutesy music with handclaps & "yeah yeah yeah yeah uh uh!'s" (my list of favourite music includes: wedding present, black mountain, Xiu Xiu, Comets on Fire, Sea & Cake, Husker Du, MF Doom, and lots more.)

Books - I'm trying to get rid of books I have & have read but have not changed my life. If a book has changed your life, I'll read it :)

hobbies - knitting (I work in the design studio for a yarn company - and I knit All. the. time. ) If it's not novelty, I'll probably like it. I knit lots of socks, and sweaters, and I'm starting to horde yarn for an afghan.

sewing - I sew a lot of my own clothes, and I'm working on a scrap quilt. I'd love bits (2 - 2 1/2" wide strips) of cotton. Any colours, any design.... I also love buttons (sewing buttons, not the badge kind although I like those too), ribbon & trim.

Random things I also like:
I LOVE fiestaware, Jadeite, LuRay & Pyrex.
I super love postcards! Tell me about yourself!
tiny things
I wear earrings & necklaces a lot
I love dogs but do not have one (YET)
My favourite colours are brown, grey (especially when paired with yellow or turqouise), eggplant, hot pink.
I like art! Little drawings & stuff!
Vanilla/warm smells
graphic design
fonts
clever colour combinations

what I don't like:
Boysocky is very scentsitive, so I don't really have a use for scented candles & stuff.
And everyone says it, so I'll say it too - I'm not so hot on the kountry krafts :)

**Edited to add the word RAK! RAK RAK RAK

I have been sick since this new RAK thread was started, and I've been uninspired to add to it.

But at the same time, recovering from pneumonia has left me feeling needy and lonely and in great, greedy desire to be RAKed upon.

So surprise me. Look me up in the old thread if you wanna. And eventually, I'll come back and edit this thread to be more helpful (and to delete the current wanton expression of neediness.)
