So it's all sunny here which means I just want to read some cheesy fun books. Anyone have any recommendations?

The recommendations don't have to be chick lit, but those are always fun. I just need some new books to read.

Have you read the Shopaholic series? Those always made me laugh out loud.

Anything by Tom Robbins. He's so funny, and totally brilliant.

I recently read Jane Austen for the first time and was surprised to realize it's... basically chick lit!!

And I hate to admit, I also enjoy reading novels by Judith Krantz, for a completely guilty pleasure bit of fluff.

Absolutely, totally irredeemable chick lit fluff: Bergdorf Blondes by Plum Sykes.

It's terrible, trashy, despicable, and I loved it.

I really like Shopaholic as well.

Animal Husbandry & Dating Big Bird (2 books) by some author whose last name begins with a Z.

The Persian Pickle Club (or anything else by) Sandra Dallas
*set in the Depression, a bunch of friends get together to quilt and gossip. It's like breathing fresh country air, with a sweet touching ending.

Patty Jane's House of Curl, Lorna Landvik
*a bunch of gossipy women and a beauty shop, say no more.

The Five Fortunes, Beth Gutcheon
* 5 women who would have never run across each other meet in a spa.

Marrying Mom, Olivia Goldsmith (Pen Pals was also good)
* totally screwball but some of Goldsmith's best work IMHO, 3 siblings who can't get along decide to marry off their widowed mother to a rich geezer so they don't have to support her. The siblings are atrocious humans but you can't help but like them. Their mother is a super feisty hilarious old lady!

Chick lit:
"Funny Valentine" by Amy Jenkins. I thought it was cool, because she didn't discuss the main character's looks at all, and the woman actually had principles and was trying to change the world. Of course, she falls for a movie star, so it's still chick lit, but I wasn't expecting the Great American Novel or anything! A nice light, quick read!
I also liked "Ralph's Party" by Lisa Jewell, although I read it quite awhile ago. So I could be wrong. & "Thirtynothing" was good, too. I think I liked that one better, in fact. But like I said, I read them both along time ago!
Non chick-lit:
"A Million Little Pieces" by James Frey. I read it in like a day, I couldn't put it down! It's about his recovery from drug & alcohol addiction. & he made up parts, but it's still really good. "Dry" is a similar book by Augusten Burroughs, except funny. Also really good.
"Norwegian Wood" & "Kafka on the Shore" & "the Windup Bird Chronicals" by Haruki Murakami. All of them were really good, but strange & hard to describe. They're Japanese, and the second two have weird supernatural things, but they're not like science fiction at all. They're just really random & great!
Dave Sedaris books are always funny, too. The ones I've read are all essays, mostly about his family & his life. "Naked," & "Me Talk Pretty One Day" & "Dress Me Up in Cordoroy & Denim" are the ones I've read.

Phew! That was a lot of recommendations! I love to read!

I'll second the Jane Austen as chick-lit post. She was so ahead of her time!

OH, I'm just going to cry, The Time Traveler's Wife was SO GOOD. Not fluffy, just a good thinker book and romantic!

Also recommended:
All of the Sin City graphic novels
Waiting (the true confessions of a waitress) by Debra Ginsberg
The Valley of the Dolls
An Affair to Remember by Christopher Anderson about Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy *sigh*
and
The Lone Surfer of Montana, Kansas by Davy Rothbart - short stories from a Gen Y dude that are amazing.

I third Time Travler. *sigh* Such a romantic story. I only hope that movie that's coming out won't ruin it for me!

Oh, yeah- Lorna Landvik! Love her stuff...I second that. and I am not much of a "Chick-Lit"-er. If you like scary good reads, I am diving back into my Dan Simmons and Peter Straub books. They aren't chick authors, but I laugh, and cry and get grossed out occasionally.....I think I also like them because they write in Midwestern settings(wisconsin, montana, etc) and there's a whole character continuity I don't find in other books.

I second Bergdorf Blondes and The Devil Wear Prada. I fifth or whatever the Shopaholic series. Sophie Kinsella, who wrote the Shopaholic series also wrote a book called "The Undomestic Goddess", which is pretty good.

Pretty much anything published by Red Dress Ink is cheesy and mindless, but good.

i <3 chick lit.

also, this is young adult, but the Gossip Girl series is addictive!

Jane A. Green has a ton of ChickLit books that I liked.

I just read The Washingtonienne by Jessica Cutler, it's relatively new.

I wouldn't classify these as "chick lit," but they are novels by young women, very enjoyable, fast reads and well-written.

And Now You Can Go -- Vendela Vida
In the Drink -- Kate Christensen
