Do you take vitamins daily? What other supplements do you take? Any that you swear by?


I've got a box full of supplements that i always have great intentions about incorporating into my daily routine, but never got in the habit of continiously taking....

i have:

iron supplements
women's multi vitamin
calcium
fiber
astragalus jade screen (immune system defense)

man, i feel like if i was to stay onto of my vitamins i'd be popping pills ALL day long...

what supplements are you fond of?

I just take a daily women's multivitamin. It huge but it has everything in it. Straight mineral supplements make me throw up sometimes, so I just take the multi.

I tried to take a St. John's Wort/5-HTP combo last summer but it gave me the big huge cyst-like pimples on the backs of my arms and across my shoulders.
Ewwww, it was totally gross and I'm doing fine not taking anything.

I heard that prenatal vitamins help your hair and nails grow. Is this true, Glitter Ladies?

Well, I started taking the women's multivitamin (which is very close to a prenatal vitamin) and my nails have been better than ever in my entire life.

My hair always grew fast, so I dunno about that.

I take a high-potency multivitamin, which is gigantic, and smells and tastes like garlic -- effin' gross, but worth it in the extra energy I have. It's formulated for vegetarians, which I'm not, but I eat so little meat, and basically no red meat (I'll cave and eat a fast-food burger every couple of months, but that's not really meat...it's barely even food), that I think it's fine.

I also take 1500mgs of St. John's Wort to combat depression. I attempted meds for over a year, and they were just too much -- they really overwhelmed my system. SJW seems much easier on the body, and therefore the psyche.

I have to watch with certain mineral supps too, because they'll make me puke -- found that out the hard way, when I started taking a vitamin with a high percentage of chromium. Not cool.

It has additional calcium, folic acid, and some other goodies. It's specificially formulated for women rather than just the general public.

Next time you're at the drugstore compare the labels and you'll see the difference.

I take a women's multi with minerals
2 vitamin Cs
Zinc
Calcium
Occasionally i'll throw in a magnesium if I remember
and around my period I might take additional iron.

I do literally pop pills all day long. Between vitamins/supplements and medications I think I take like 10 pills a day. And you can't take some with others and some with food, some with out. So....I have to stagger through out the day.

I used to take a Women's Multivitamin, calcium, Vitamin E, and iron.

The calcium is because I need more than what the multi has since I'm on Depo, the iron because I'm borderline anemic. But I refuse to take the iron because it makes me sick, even if I eat with it.

I can handle the iron in the multi, but I can't take it straight or it makes me sick.

I just eat loads of red meat right around my period ;-)

I take centrum multivitamins.
It's the only brand that doesn't make me nauseous and almost throw up after taking it. My stomach is really sensitive to vitamins for some reason.
I remember as a kid, I once got sick from drinking a glass of orange juice and then taking my flintstone vitamin.
The ones from vitamin world had to be flushed, because they made me totally sick feeling just from the taste. Why do some vitamins do that? So strange.

If you are anemic, the multivitamins are very nice because they have the 100% dv in them, so it's easy. that's what I did, and it helps a lot. Every once in awhile if I feel particularly tired, like the low in iron tired, I take two in one day. But I wouldn't recommend doing that very often.

I also take fish oil capsules.

- daily multivitamin with extra vit Bs for all the stress I deal with daily

- extra B Complex around my period times too

- alfalfa because I have some digestion problems with my gallbladder, liver and intestines. (Also helps keep my skin looking good)

- Starting today, 1-2 grams of essential fatty acids (I ran out several months ago, but finally picked up more again after reading an interesting article on anti-aging in Natural Health Magazine yesterday)

This seems to be the right combo for me after months and months of not feeling well and getting boils and abdomen cramping, although I'm thinking about adding something for tyroid support as well. However, I'm feeling much better!

what is "low in iron tired" i am always fatigued. to the pointsometimes i feel like im drunk or its painful to be awake and its independent of how much sleep i get.... i wonder if it could be iron related?? im a vegetarian, so i guess its possible??

i'm so bad at having my vitimins on me when im eating meals, i think thats part of my problem with taking them regular. maybe i need a vitamin container??

hi, my name is jayne and i'm a suplementaholic.

re: low iron, i'd get tested for anemia. that's often the source of my fatigue.

i go through phases with my supplements. currently i have a morning routine of taking astragalus tincture (for winter immune boosting), a multivitamin, holy basil tincture (for stress/anxiety), and amla with vit. c (an ayurcedic supplement that i'm taking for tooth/gum health). i also drink oatstraw/raspberry leaf/nettles tea regularly for their iron content and reproductive system strengthening.

and then i'll go for months and not feel like taking anything. then i'll get on some new health kick and want to improve my digestive/reproductive/nervous system/whatever health and i'll go get more supplements.

You could definitely try taking the the iron inclusive multivitamin and seeing if it helps. Or eat lots of spinach/dark leafy greens. I should probably do both of those more often myself. For me, "low iron tired" entails having trouble thinking clearly (even when I get enough sleep), feeling kind of disconnected from everything, that "here but not here" feeling. Spacing out a lot, having trouble focusing on things. I also have trouble remembering things that I normally would not, just generally feel kind of drained, and out of it. I realize that's probably a vague description.

Funny because this thread reminded me to go take my vitamins today!
