What's your favorite add-in or topping for oatmeal?
I just started buying the plain old rolled oats because those instant flavored types are so expensive, but I'm not sure what to put in it besides maple syrup or brown sugar. |

brown sugar's the best! I also mix in random combinations of the following:
* cream
* yogurt
* dried cranberries
* raisins
* blueberries
but my favorite is brown sugar, raisins, and a leeetle bit of cream. |

cooked apple bits and cinnamon with sugar would be really good too.
I like milk, butter, and tons of brown sugar in mine.
I actually LOVE the "irish oatmeal" they sell at trader joes. It comes in instant packs, and it's soooo good. |

Just cinnamon and nutmeg.
And some sugar or splenda if I'm in a sweet mood.
Although dried apple and cranberry bits sound tasty right now, too. |

Ever tried steel cut oats? It takes a little bit longer to make (30 minutes or so) but it blows instant oatmeal out of the water. That being said, my favorite toppings are cream, raspberries (dried or fresh), and lots of sugar-in-the-raw. _________________ "Busheney," Sunny said, which meant something along the lines of, "You're an evil man with no concern whatsoever for other people."

Lately, I've been putting sliced bananas and a couple of dried apricots on my oatmeal.
I have found, seriously the best way to make oatmeal. Instead of boiling the water then adding oats, put cold water and oats in the pot and bring to a boil together, then simmer on low. so good, doesn't end up the consistency of wall paper paste. _________________ Love Loud, Don't Lose Loud.--Mates of State |

Peanut butter sounds amazing, I'll definitely try that. With cinnamon and raisins it would probably be even tastier.

Sounds yum. Is it plain or flavored?
I'll pick some up next trip there along with a few bags of dried fruit.
Thanks everyone, these are all really cool ideas.
ETA: I wonder what pumpkin puree would be like? Too thick to work with? I don't use it a lot so I have no clue... anyone else tried it? |

I cool my kids' with milk, then I put brown sugar and maple syrup.
I've tried applesauce, yogurt, and jam, but they don't go for it. |

I think they have plain and maple brown sugar flavored. OR, you can buy the actual can of the plain oats too. It's in a metal can and it has some Irish sounding last name. It tastes a lot better than the Quaker stuff does, to me. The instant should be right next to it in boxes. |
