No matter your political leanings (or political apathy, as the case may be), it should be pretty interesting to see an episode of Iron Chef taped at the White House, using veggies grown in Michelle Obama's garden. Unless you have no interest in politics, cooking, reality TV, the green movement, health food, consumerism, pseudo-celebrity or AMERICA.

WHY DO YOU HATE AMERICA???

The Wild Unknown released their new selection of limited edition 2010 calendars. Beautifully hand drawn prints center around 60's folk singers, bunnies and birds of prey, and feathers. These calendars are just about the most beautiful thing around. My favorite: the print for January of the Netherland Dwarf Rabbit with the Smog lyrics "You are a fighter. You are fighter. You are a fighter." next to it.

While killing a few hours at the Smithsonian and watching video of the Woods Hole Deep Sea subs, I got to wondering if any deep sea subs allow private citizens to hop on boards. It turns out, Stanley Submarines allows just that. Stanley started building subs when he was 9, in his backyard. At first I was very excited about the possibility, but after further research, I don't think I can hop on-board anytime soon.

It's getting cold in Canada. A traditional smudge is a good way to keep cozy and prepare yourself for what's to come. In theory, the smoke attaches itself to negative energy and, as the smoke clears, it takes the bad stuff with it.

Jennifer Cook makes a version from naturally-dried reclaimed cedar and sage harvested from her neighborhood. She recommends smudging nearly anything: living creatures, inanimate objects, and spaces. Buy one from her here.

Or learn more about smudging here.

Work has been taking me to DC a lot lately. The only perk that I can think of, is that the client is the Smithsonian's Natural History Museum. So I've been getting to poke around the museum more than I normally would. Here are two photos I took this week of toys from Africa and a matchstick rendition of a Black Star Line ship made from matchsticks.

The Museum at FIT keeps up it's tradition of awesome shows with two that are up now. Upstairs is Fashion & Politics which is a bad ass survey of Political fashion from the 1700's until now. It's Heroic. Downstairs is a show of Isabela Toldeo. I knew she is elegant, but it turns out she is subversive- with clothes that sincerely address sexuality and otherness with deep beauty. AND you get to see Michelle's dress!
