Support Sublime Stitching

I don't play three card monte and I don't usually get conned.

It has come to my attention that Urban Threads has been blatantly copying the designs of and text from Sublime Stitching and posing as an independent single entrepreneur based company when it is really part of a larger corporate entity. Therefore i deactivated that account here on glimmer.

You can read the thread concerning this with Jenny Hart's letter and see for yourself how the designs are mysteriously similar.

Jenny Hart and her work is a cornerstone of the alt craft community. She has been an editor and contributor here for many years.

Crafty in the Capital

I'm thrilled to be attending the Summit of Awesome in Washington, D.C., May 1-3. Organized by Hello Craft, this weekend conference looks to be the ultimate educational and networking opportunity for makers, craft fair organizers, and business owners. The schedule is dreamy; I can't wait to learn embroidery from fellow editor Jenny Hart of Sublime Stitching, and to hear a panel discussion on green crafting. Tickets are still available for $180 -- if you want to propel your craft forward and bond with others who are hot for handmade, it's well worth it. I'll be screening the Re-Construct trailer at 6:15 and 8:30 p.m. on May 1, right before Faythe Levine's Handmade Nation documentary, at the Jewish Community Center.

Meatpaper is "a print magazine of art and ideas about meat." Editors Sasha Wizansky and Amy Standen are going strong with Issue #7 on its way to an arty book/magazine store near you. There will be a launch party Monday April 20th at Camino restaurant in Oakland... chock full of treats for Bay Area food lovers and makers.

Dollar Dollar Bill Ya'all

Mark Wagner makes collages out of actual US currency. I really like the sea life and the pie chart. I suppose this hits a chord like Monopoly becoming a hit in the 30's or other ways that Cash Rules Everything Around Me. I saw these in Harper's, where liberals shop for culture.

David Lynch Foundation. Television

I am having a hard time grokking the beta for DLF.TV. It is a foundation, started by David Lynch that supports TM (Transcendental Meditation) as a tool to help foster creativity and focus with students. It is also evidently an online television station. Also, Donovan. Online moments like this make me question whether I am actually awake.
