The Icelandic design team, Studiobility, has created some very sweet steel shelving units that cast perforated and somewhat nostalgic shadows on the wall. See the Fairy/Tale bookshelf and the Crochet Steel units, based on traditional Icelandic crochet lace work.

Haute GREEN is proof perhaps that the haute-grass is often greener, particularly during New York Design Week. This curated three day exhibit (with a suggested entrance donation) features original recycled/recyclable/renewable home design objects by seventy designers from around the world. The 'Log Bowl' by Loyal Loot definitely turned me into a green-eyed monster!
I've been a fan of the excellent Flak Magazine for years. The photography component of that webzine has grown into its own "photography blogzine" -- Flak Photo. The site, edited by Andy Adams, features a new photo every day, Monday through Friday. The showcased works are always impressive.
Most definitely check out Bill Wadman's amazing 365 Portraits project. Wadman has challenged himself to take a portrait a day for 365 days -- not a self-portrait, but a portrait of someone else. And these are absolutely stunning photographs. Worth checking out daily.
EDIBLE ESTATES is still looking for a front lawn and family in suburban New York City. They will remove the lawn and replace it with an edible landscape responsive to the local climate and context. All labor and materials will be donated.

BuildEazy.com has a great selection of freely-available woodworking plans of generally high quality and generally average skill level, as well as a selection of $5 plans you can buy and download immediately. Their octagonal picnic table looks especially appealing to me.
The Cooper Hewitt Museum just unveiled its DIY, it's-time-for-solutions exhibit, Design for the Other 90%, installed in a mini-village of sorts on the museum's grounds and gardens. Design for the Other 90% explores a growing movement among designers to design low-cost solutions for this “other 90%.” Don't miss the Katrina Furniture Project, the Big-Boda Bicycle, the Mad Housers Hut, or the the Sierra Portable Light Project.
