How to Throw Out Clothes

How to Throw Out Clothes

Or make a book. My pal Jen Bell just came to visit. I was in the midst of trying to get rid of old clothes I never wear. Including one jacket of my big sisters. They wore it to protest the Vietnam War. It's khaki, army issue, ca 1970. I couldn't part with it. Suffused with too many memories for the likes of any old thrift store. Ms Bell's suggestion? Take a picture of it, write down the story, put it in a book. Then get rid of it. Now she got this idea from a book herself, one on how to declutter. I loved the idea and have decided this will be my eloquent way of cataloging my own consumption. Or rather the purges relating to it. For everything I give away, I will note its origins, tell its story – create a Kodak moment. I haven't started yet, but there is a huge pile of clothes downstairs just waiting for the digi camera.

KnitCast: Audio Knitting

KnitCast is a fantastic podcast from the UK. Marie Irshad interviews knitters involved in everything from knitwear design to magazine publishing to yarn stores to websites. I don't even knit, and I love this podcast! It's really all about the creative process, and our delight in the tools and materials we use to make our stuff.

Tip: Use Your Freezer

Tip: Use Your Freezer

In the summer I always find new excuses to open my freezer. Today I freeze some mushy eyeliner pencils so they can be sharpened without crumbling. The sharpener goes in the freezer too. Works out well. Yay freezer!
