The Wild Unknown calendars are here

The Wild Unknown calendars are here

The Wild Unknown released their new selection of limited edition 2010 calendars. Beautifully hand drawn prints center around 60's folk singers, bunnies and birds of prey, and feathers. These calendars are just about the most beautiful thing around. My favorite: the print for January of the Netherland Dwarf Rabbit with the Smog lyrics "You are a fighter. You are fighter. You are a fighter." next to it.

Lazy, Demanding, and Ready for Breakfast

Lazy, Demanding, and Ready for Breakfast

Halloween is a collective favorite of us Badder Homes and Gardens broads. Cooking, however, is not. I'm a disaster at it, but I may give it a go for these Mummy Sausage Kolache Dogs from TasteSpotting. And by that, I mean I'll be printing out the recipe and waiting for my boyfriend to make me breakfast in bed. Get a move on, sweet cheeks!

DIY Submarine

DIY Submarine

While killing a few hours at the Smithsonian and watching video of the Woods Hole Deep Sea subs, I got to wondering if any deep sea subs allow private citizens to hop on boards. It turns out, Stanley Submarines allows just that. Stanley started building subs when he was 9, in his backyard. At first I was very excited about the possibility, but after further research, I don't think I can hop on-board anytime soon.

Smudged

Smudged

It's getting cold in Canada. A traditional smudge is a good way to keep cozy and prepare yourself for what's to come. In theory, the smoke attaches itself to negative energy and, as the smoke clears, it takes the bad stuff with it.

Jennifer Cook makes a version from naturally-dried reclaimed cedar and sage harvested from her neighborhood. She recommends smudging nearly anything: living creatures, inanimate objects, and spaces. Buy one from her here.

Or learn more about smudging here.

Artistbook International

Artistbook International

I don't know about you, but I won't be in Paris this fall. However if I were I would certainly spend some serious time at Artistbook International who are having a fair at the Center Pompidou Oct 24-26. With 60 publishers, rare book dealers and happenings it sounds like a bibliophile's dream.

If you have one million spiders

If you have one million spiders

And lots of time, you too can make a spider silk tapestry. Amazing! If you are in NYC, you can go see it at the Natural History Museum.

Bake-Off in Brooklyn!

Bake-Off in Brooklyn!

October 10th is the City Reliquary's 1st Annual Havemeyer Sugar Sweets Festival! It will feature baked goods, baking presentations, music and performances. It is also a fund-raising event for the Reliquary, which is a really cool organization. They are looking for Civic Bakers to donate fresh baked yummies for the bake sale. If you'd like to contribute your own fresh baked treat, email Jeff at jtancil@yahoo.com. The event itself will be on Saturday, October 10th, noon to 6pm, in Williamsburg on Havemeyer between Grand and Metropolitan.
