Stitch Austin This Saturday!
Duh, it's only the greatest and largest independent fashion show there is. It's the fifth annual Stitch Austin fashion show and craft bazaar! I think they're expecting oh, 5,000 attendees this year. These are my girls, people and I'm dang proud of them. Oh, and in case you'll be there, please visit the Sublime Stitching booth, and look for yours truly on the runway. I'll be sporting a Sock Monkey Bikini by Rebecca Yaker. See you on the independent catwalk!> sublimestitcher on 11/06/07 #
Pecha Kucha
I've been asked to give an overview of my career in 6 minutes and 40 seconds. Pecha Kucha Nights are being hosted around the world, and the basic idea is: show 20 slides of your work, spend no more than 20 seconds talking about each image, and then siddown and shaddup. This speed-talking forum was devised by Mark Dytham and Astrid Klein in response to self-indulgent oraters. If you're in Austin and want to see how I'll fare under the clock, visit Austin Pecha Kucha.> sublimestitcher on 10/11/07 #
Campaign Crafts!
Jessica Vitkus has a hilarious slideshow of campaign-appropriate craft projects for the upcoming elections over on Slate. Her quilted "Department of Homeland Security Blanket" and bedazzled $100 bills are my favorites.> sublimestitcher on 08/14/07 #
Mint House
I got an email the other day from a long-ago and faraway friend, Makoto Oozu from Japan. Makoto-kun makes really wonderful works in cross-stitch, from simple little motifs to cruelty-free entymologial displays. I also quite like the nipple cap.The Mint House> sublimestitcher on 06/25/07 #
Craft Congress!
Well, I just got back from the first session of Craft Congress in Pittsburgh, a meeting of the 'leaders of the DIY community'. It was an amazing weekend, and we all agreed that we represented only a sliver of the leaders in the movement. Top of the agenda: "who are we, how do we work to benefit the DIY community at large, and how do we organize this thing?" If you want to read more, check out the Glitter Thread on the congress, and check out the Craft Congress Photo Pool on flickr!> sublimestitcher on 04/03/07 #
Kurt Halsey Embroidery Patterns
I've long dreamed of having an 'Artist Series' of embroidery patterns, and am pleased as punch to have Kurt Halsey premiering the line. If for some reason you're not already familiar with his work, get thee to his website.> sublimestitcher on 03/23/07 #
Acronym Rosetta Stone
Fed up with feeling like a total loser for not knowing all the hip acronyms being bandied about the internets, I discovered the Internet Acronyms Dictionary. Phew! Now I can GAC with all these CUAs. AIICA, but I'm totally LMAOWSHMB.> sublimestitcher on 03/14/07 #
SXSW Interactive - Boss Lady Panel
Are you among the many thousands descending upon Austin to attend SXSW? Then be sure come see me and Vickie Howell of Knitty Gritty wax like experts or something on the Boss Lady Panel, moderated by Emira Mears and Lauren Bacon of BossLady.ca. Alex Beauchamp of Girl at Play will be there too!> sublimestitcher on 03/08/07 #
Embroidered Graffiti!
Check out the sweetly subversive public embroidery of Ulrika Erdes. Too bad subway seats in NYC are hard plastic...(thanks Jennifer!)> sublimestitcher on 02/22/07 #
